    Fans OUT of PC

Kind of a weird but should be easy one here. Everything seems pretty straight forward and simple but I have some questions that I might as well ask.

I am thinking of running 2 fans OUTSIDE of my PC, but off the PSU power so they run when the PC turns on. The fans are PC fans, a 120mm and a 230mm. I am thinking of running both of one pin and soldering the cables.

    The questions are:
    1. How far can I run the cables without concern?
    2. Should I use thick cables or anything will do at this low level?

    Thanks

no problem - cable can be many meters long - but not too thin for that 230mm one.

personally i run a bunch of led-strips and a multi-tool (dremel style thing) off mine.

The only thing I'd suggest is a small fuse (less than 1A) in series with the +12 lead. That way, if the wires get pinched, you don't have small wires trying to carry fault current to trip the supply, catching fire in the process.

Drill a hole in the back of the chassis and mount a 5.5x2.1 power jack. Put a plug on your fan wiring, then you can easily attach/remove the fans. If you do this, put the fuse inside, before the power jack, since the pin in the jack could short to the shell if something falls in.

While you normally don't "backfeed" power jacks this way, we're talking 12V here, and many LCD monitors that fed power to external amplified speakers did the same thing.

Edit: I've taken this for granted so didn't mention this. AVOID FROZENCPU! The owner went on a drunken, doped rage some time ago, and fired everyone. Then smashed the all company and customer computers.

I almost ordered heatsinks last summer, thinking "gee, they're still around, let's give them a try" and found the story after some searching/foruming.

IIRC, a bank or CC company pulled their merchant account for them, so any "payments" you make to them are a scam.

Man...... that sucks..... Frozen CPU was my go-to for a long time. Thank you for pointing that out. There should be a way for the government to shut down their online store.

Thank you for your advise about the fans!

RTX3090 working fine but fans not spinning
          by emil_t
Hello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....

          Asus Strix-G15-G513RM fans don't work
          by b-slayer
          Hi everyone,

I have an Asus Strix-G15-G513RM, who starts normally, but as the fans don't work, it stops and is really really hot,
The Bios was the latest one, (327), but I managed to downgrade it to version 325 to see if it changed something,
(as I read somewhere that a corrupted bios can explane my problem), but nothing, it just went full blow during the downgrade,
(so now, i can say that the fans are fonctionnal), but as it restarted, the fans won't turn at all again.

ah, and in the Bios, even when the temperature is really hot, the fan are a 0 rpm,...

Panasonic ZT60 plasma tv with strange behavior and 8 blink code
          by cloo
I recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.

So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...

BIOS Help Regarding GM5IX7A-GM6IX7A Origin Laptop
          by legendkray
          Hi,
I have OriginPC EON 15SL, however, my laptop starts and shutsdown after 1-2 second. Keyboard leds are coming on then fans spinning then it shutsdown and not turning back on unless I plug out the power cable and plug it in. I had issues with bricked BIOS then I flashed BIOS I got from the vendor to the SPI chip and still it didn’t worked because my EC firmware was newer than the BIOS I have flashed. So I wanted to try flashing the EC chip with the correct firmware that matches with the BIOS also from the vendor and it worked everything was well, and then stupid me wanted to unlock some...

          Hi there,
this is my first post so bear with me

my device is no longer in warranty. I am comfortable with doing minimal operations on the device. it has no data I formatted it thinking it's a software bug at first, but no it's something else.

What I tried: running it with disabled dGPU, running it with an external screen, resetting everything, using Linux on it instead of windows, reinstalling BIOS, using a different SSD, running it without internet, keeping it plugged to a wall, using a desktop cooler on the CPU, praying to god, contacting the CEO'S office...
