Transformer producing higher voltage than rated
    by UserXP
    Hello, people.
i am not sure if this question belongs to this forum section exactly, but since there already are some queries here about power transformer, let's give it a try.

So, I have this old but very well preserved Casio SA-20 ToneBank keyboard. It is powered either by five 1.5V AA bateries, or via a power adapter, so its operating voltage is 7.5V. The power adapter input jack also states 7.5V DC In. Now, since this keyboard was never supplied with a PT, but actually came with test bateries included, I decided to try to buy an adapter for it. I know I could have just gone...

    Macbook 820-2279-A fan not spinning
    by tony359
    Hi all,

I have this old macbook which I am trying to repair for nostalgic reasons
The fan does not spin until the MB overheats and shuts down.

The fan gets 5V but there is no PWM on pin 3. The same with the fan unplugged, no PWM on pin 3. The fan shows some glimpse of activity every 5 seconds. Sometimes it spins for half a revolution and that's it.

From the schematics (obtained from this forum, THANKS!) I see there is a mosfet getting signal from the SMC. The mosfet gets 3.3V but there is no input - well, there is 3.3V. I removed the mosfet to see...

    nostalgic american made...Bose
    by capwizard
This nostalgic American made...Bose which from Goodwill has no display.

    After this http://www.fixya.com/support/t518635..._style_model_5
I really don't know which caps to change, so I use ESR meter found this 2 caps. (Pic 7)

One question, no display how come you know is display problem, Is the power turn on or not ? By use this UK made meter ( if I am right?) in Pic 4. I put in current mode (this meter has 4 digits current display better than anyone else.) to diagnostic where the power is on or off.

    Dead Asus P5P800-VM
    by tony359
    Hello all

    I'm new to the forums.
I am trying to troubleshoot an old LGA775 Asus P5P800-VM. This MB comes from an old 35mm Cinema sound processor which I am collecting for nostalgic reasons! As this is a custom system, it may work with another board or it may not. If I cannot fix it I'll get another identical one on the internet but for now I am doing my best to fix it.

    Little history.

    - System failed to boot intermittently. I thought it was one of the expansion boards but in the end it failed to boot altogether even with nothing connected....

BFG Tech. GeForce FX5200 [ASLM52256] – full recap info and cooler mod
    by momaka
The more time passes, the more nostalgic I get with old hardware. Video cards and motherboards tend to be my weak spot. As such, I often scavenge eBay for old PC hardware, especially anything with bad caps or in need of similar minor repair.

For today's consideration, I have a popular low-end card from back in the early 2000's: an nVidia GeForce FX5200. This one is the BFG Tech. Asylum take on the card, with 256 MB of DDR RAM running at 400 MHz and 128-bit bus (vs. 64-128 MB and 64-bit bus on many of the cheaper versions.)

    I think it's easy...
