    "Kemo" Electrolytic capacitors from Maplin

Has anyone had these caps before? There are no reviews on the Maplin site but bought a couple of "lucky bags" for testing purposes. Not expecting Rubycon quality but was interested because I can't find anything about them online. The company seems to be German.. but I suspect they are probably buying Chinese caps and relabelling them?

Asked a Maplin CC agent and they said they haven't had any complaints.. but with no reviews that sounds a bit bs.

    Cheers!

They are new to Maplins, they weren't listed last time i checked their website a month or so ago.

Have you got an ESR meter to test them ?

It looks like Kemo is an OEM brand, some electronics shop or small company making kits of components and selling them through Maplin.

A bunch of capacitors in that bag are made by Yageo, some are Panasonic (vent shape, the M with rounded corners), if they're genuine the kit may have some value. Panasonic does very good capacitors, Yageo does OK capacitors, but both companies have whole ranges of capacitors, some more suited for a purpose than others.

However, I see some of the larger capacitors are only rated for 85c which means they're some standard average capacitors, not really suited for fixing switching power supplies commonly found in computers or monitors. The smaller ones may be more adequate but again, without knowing the exact series of capacitors to check the datasheets, I can't say for sure.

So I'd say such bags would be more suited for fixing old CRT TVs, radios, some other more classic circuits, prototyping things on breadboards as a hobby, and maybe you could even use capacitors inside to fix something for short term (a few hours or days) until you can use proper capacitors.

Yes I was thinking exactly the same thing about using them as temporary test caps before investing in good ones.
When I get them ill post a list of what I got! Never know might get some goodies.

Opinions/Advice on Do/Should I replace ALL Electrolytic Capacitors on old equipment?
              by RetroComputingGrotto
I've just been repairing some (very) old speakers with a loud hum that occurred as soon as you powered them on regardless if any actual audio is played through them. I work in a School so it's 99% likey that the Teachers have hardly ever turned the power off on them for well over 10+ years.

As you can see the top large capacitor on the right has a bulge on the top so defincately needs replacing. As the one next to it is exactly the same capacity and voltage I planned to replace them both.

What is your advice/opinion on whether or not on old(er)...

              Old electrolytic capacitors
              by alfredo2j90
So as most of us know, old unused electrolytic capacitors are unrealiable due drying out and breakdown of the oxide layer.

I have a few questions regarding these issues.

              1. Does using an electrolytic cap stop it from drying out or is it natural process that happens regardless?

              2. With the breakdown of the oxide layer the ESR will increase as well as DC leakage. Say the cap has remained unused on a motherboard, psu or games console for many years, if the cap does not physically pop when power is applied what other damage could occur to the system if it was...

AA and AAA battery charger capacitors?
              by slybunda
hey all, iv got my favourite battery charger here which iv had for many years probably 15 years now or maybe even more. it still works good but thought id open it up to clean the dust out of it, lots of dust inside but now its clean and noticed 4 capacitors inside it and wondered if i should replace them.
              it has inside:
              2 x 47uf 16v caps 105c branded as Su'scon (lol sounds sus to me)
              2 x 470uf 16v LZ105c branded as G.Luxon

not heard of these brands are they any good?

iv attached photos of the charger and the board inside for an idea on the type of...

Recapping Sony ICF-SW55 - verifying cap values
              by proxneo
              Dear reader

I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.

At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:

              3 x 470uF 10VDC
              3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
              4 x 47uF 50VDC
              8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
              1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
              5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

              Which...

Are there any datasheets available for Elna RJG capacitors?
              by Ady2017
I have a 2007-era Panasonic VHS combo that is full of of Elna RJG capacitors. I am trying to test the capacitors to diagnose the machine and then select replacement capacitors but I can not find any datasheets for them. I did find a Elna catalogue from 2007-2008 but there is no mention of this capacitor series. Where these specially made for Panasonic and so not made available to the public? Any ideas what to find out what the ESR values should be without the datasheets? They are all between 10V and 50V and 47uF and 1800uF. None are leaking or bulged but I know that they need to be tested to be...
