    Help with Qnap TS-130 component identification marked U3

    I wonder if anyone can help a newbie, I have a Qnap TS-130 that is totally dead. The component marked U3 in the photo seems to be shorted but I am havin trouble identifying it.
    Anyone able to help please?

    Looks like it could be a NJM78L05UA regulator ic if that is 8C

      It is indeed 8C, and you may well be right. Thanks R_J I will let you know if it is that as soon as I get some.

        linear regulators rarely short out,
        they are designed not to do that.
        if you see a short between the center pin (earth) and the left pin (input) or the right pin (output) then the ceramic caps are more likely to be the problem.

          I've seen them go shorted due to reverse voltage
