    Hakko FX-888 Replacement tips Canada

    I have the Hakko FX-888 soldering station which works fantastic. I'm just wondering where to or order replacements tips from in Canada or who will ship to Canada cheaply. The Hakko website shipping is ridiculous when shipping to Canada. I've heard eBay is full of fakes.

    Also just to verify I require the T18 tips correct?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

      I believe Active Electronics, if you have one, carries them (last time I checked). They aren't cheap (around $10.99 CDN each), but you can be mostly assured they are 100% Hakko genuine.

      They may also carry Hakko equivalent tips which are cheaper?

      I have purchased "Hakko" tips from ebay and they are likely 100% fake, but they do work. The average tip on ebay is around $2 + free shipping.

      T18 comes in different variations as per

      I recommend the chisel (D series).

          Thanks for the help! That raises another question. I mostly just use it for replacing capacitors on computer equipment. Is there a certain tip that works best? I've been using the B shape one and it seems to work fairly well.

              I like the chisel 1.8 or 2.4mm tip. 3.2mm might be required for desoldering things that have a big copper plane.

                  I like the 3.2 mm chisel tip (T18-D32) for recapping. The heat capacity makes a difference to me, especially on motherboards. YMMV.

                  I usually use B&D Enterprises (authorized Hakko distributor and sell on ebay as www*bdent*com). I don't know how much it costs to ship to Canada, though. For single items I generally find buying from them on ebay to be cheaper overall than paying for the item and shipping at their own site.

                      Today, I had to do some repairs and I switched to the 3.2mm chisel tip for desoldering old caps off a PC multilayer motherboard. Adding some fresh leaded solder and temperature set at 375C made it very easy to remove the old caps.

                      As I noted in the earlier post, my 3.2mm chisel tip is a sort by lowest price + free shipping ebay highly likely fake tip, but it worked fine today.

                          Hi All,

                          Just wanted to see if I can get some advice on techniques and equipment I should use to try replace the socket on a Gigabyte H610M h v2ddr4 I have.

                          I was planning on using a heat mat I have that's used for phone, tablet screens, as a base heater than use hot air with a square nozzle on top. Yes I should get a proper preheater but I'm not in the position to go spend 300+ bucks on something I will use every 6 months if I'm lucky. Next expense I need to get is a decent programmer like the RT809H but again it would get used infrequently so hard to justify.

                          Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement

                          Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

                          It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

                          Hello guys,

                          I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

                          I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

                          Hello,

                          Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

                          So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

                          I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...

                          i have a 2020 macbook pro 13" A2251 with 820-09149 logic board so i found an issue with chip labeled U6903 according to schem. boardview using flexBV software, so i removed it from the board and the issue im having is that the chip says "07A08FI ELC180​" on top of it but when searching for a replacement chip, i can find tons of identical looking chips that also have "ELC180" printed on them but the first set of digits is never the same so im trying to find out if i need this exact chip with these same numbers as mine and if not which ones are compatible as a replacement?...
