    MP2886A programming

    Hi everyone,
I have a board with a dead pwm on mp2886a. I order the chip without thinking about programming, and now I just realize my mistake.

Someone know if it's 100% needed to program the chip ? And if so, how to program it ? I see some dedicated board and software but, software is a bit tricky to me, the bad part of the job...

p.s : with the dead pwm chip, the GPU work fine when I disconnect the shorted pwm (6), with the new chip Pgood is 0 and the gpu doesn't start, so I guess it need to be programmed, or it's fake chip..

    p.s 2 : Sorry for my English, I do my best ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The MP2886A provides an EEPROM to store custom configurations. A 4-digit part number suffix is assigned for each application. The default configuration for each 4-digit part can be pre-programmed at the MPS factory. The data can be programmed again using the STORE_USER_ALL (15h) command via the PMBus and requires 200ms for the data to be stored to the EEPROM. The EEPROM is read automatically during the power-on sequence or by the RESTORE_USER_ALL (16h) command via the PMBus and requires at least 300ยตs for data to be restored from the EEPROM.
If the data from the EEPROM is checked as invalid by the cyclic redundancy code (CRC) during the system initialization process, the system enters an EEPROM fault state without outputting power and waits for the error clear command. The configuration from the EEPROM is ignored. There are three ways to clear the EEPROM fault and start up again with the restored value from the EEPROM:

    1. Clear the EEPROM fault via the PMBus command (FFh).

    2. Clear the fault status via the PMBus command (03h).

    3. Store the configuration into the EEPROM and restart.

            Q: I have a bios request,i can`t post my backup as i can`t read from the chip.

A: If you can`t read from it how do you expect to write to it ?.

Q: Why is my bios chip unreadable ?.

A: The programmer is faulty or has a worn or broken zif socket.

The USB cable is frayed, connector pins worn or some other physical damage.

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
            by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
            by double_DD
            Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Laptop dead after replacing BIOS Chip
            by bigbadbios
            Hi all,
I have an ASUS ROG Strix G533z 12th gen i9 laptop that had no video.
I suspected BIOS corruption, so I took the main BIOS chip off and replaced it with another one that had a clean BIN I bought online.
After doing so, the device is stone dead. Even with the original chip fitted back.
I sent it to Northridge Fix (I am based in US) and he said no activity on thermal cam and no power issue is not directly firmware related.
Can anyone help? I'd love to save this fairly new and powerful laptop.
            Thank you!โ€‹

I tried soldering a new one (hot air), same symptoms, no response from power button and
ITE 8655e GXS chip is getting hot.

What can make that chip get hot? Thanks...
