    Troubleshooting a Scanner

OK, since there's no sub-forum for imaging devices I'll toss this one in here.

The scanner is a UMAX 1200S which is an 8.5 x 14", SCSI unit that I bought new about a dozen or so years ago. With no apparent provocation it has ceased to give the scanned image and in its place it gives the attached image.

It does not matter what is on the platen, it just gives the same thing.

So, with caps being the hot topic I changed out all of them (main board and "scan head") for good quality replacements from Digikey and....no change. Swapped out the wall wart, same thing. I'm guessing something in the communication between the scan head and the main board but don't have an idea where to start.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Sony XR-55A80J OLED TV 5 blinks - Troubleshooting steps
      by jason123
      Hi there,
I see a couple of posts related to the troubleshooting of similar TV. The one I have is acting slightly differently and I'd love your help.

So it has the 5 blinks. Previous owner got a TCON, no luck. Got a new Main board (though he didn't do the USB firmware update), again, no improvements.

I see 2 posts that are relevant:

Troubleshooting Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display
      by nicktasios
I recently picked up a Quadra with a Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display. The Quadra was not working, it clearly had corrosion from leaking caps so I replaced them and luckily it chimed and worked properly.

The next problem to tackle was the screen. Sometimes it turns on and off multiple times before finally turning on, and then it sometimes turns purple. After waiting some time, without doing anything, it regains all colors. Another symptom is that it sometimes seems to momentarily blink.

Also, not sure if this is related, but sometimes, after experiencing these problems,...

What are these components that detect paper in a fax scanner

      PROBLEM SOLVED
I DIDN'T REALISE MY SMALLEST SOLDERING TIP COULD JUST FIT BETWEEN THESE COMPONENTS.
I MANAGED TO REMOVE THEM WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE BOARD AND I HAVE MY INTENDED END RESULT.

On a Possio PM70 portable fax machine which has a scanner that detects when you push a piece of paper into the scanner slot.
It is these two small (3mm long) components that detect the paper and start the scanner feed motor which pulls the paper into the scanner.
(These are on the circuit board for the keypad and not the main board)

I want to disable these as...

ASUS TUF X570-PLUS doesn't power on: no VRM_EN signal.
      by ShadowAi
Hello, I have an issue with the motherboard. Specifically, it doesn't power on, more precisely, the POST initialization doesn't occur.

Let me start from the beginning, the motherboard suddenly stopped working one day. There are no beep signals from the speaker, and the debug LEDs are not lighting up. After inspecting it under a microscope and using thermal imaging, I didn't find anything that could be damaged.

After that, I began voltage measurements, in which I noticed the absence of VDDQ, VDDP, VTT, and VPP lines. Later, I checked if there is an EN state on these lines,...

practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards
      by blues_spirit
      Hello from France,
mon2 kindly advised me to post a thread to ask the question(s) I'm concerned about. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for practical courses for troubleshooting pc motherboards especially laptops in Europe, if possible in France. I have been a computer network system administrator and a corrector of administration modules for automated programs under Unix. But I really miss the practical "ops" side of troubleshooting. So I would like to start from the beginning: 1.8V, 3.3V, 5V and 19V tests for example, etc...
Do you think this is feasible for me? I...
