I noticed that in schematics is used random triac simbol, where on gate side is T1 or T2. I know it pass current in both direction, so generaly it is not important, but ask for consistency to learn correct. Why is developed this two way of marking if symbol is standarized?
What is correct triac symbol?

I came across this schematic, and I built it, but I can't seem to figure it out why I'm getting a low AC voltage output at the TRIAC terminals.
With 230V AC hot side at the TRIAC MT2, I measured 60V AC between MT1 and neutral side when the comparator output LED indicator is on, and 20V AC when it is off.
Same result if 230V AC hot side is at MT1, and I measured between MT2 and neutral side.
My heating element doesn't work with 60V AC. It's not even getting hot and the thermocouple amplifier output is a...1 Photo -
by objecttothisI had a desktop form factor mini-server die on me a few weeks ago. Through my initial diagnostics, I was convinced it was the motherboard because when I shorted the Green wire on the ATX connecter, the multimeter gave me all the correct voltages on the various pins of the ATX connector and 5VSTB was also correct. To my surprise the replacement motherboard wouldn't turn on with the case power button either. I threw in another PSU and it turned on right away. This is an 80 Plus EVGA 430W PSU with PN:100-W1-0430. I pulled the cover off and don't see any immediately obvious blown caps or scorch...

by harpTrying to understand which properties of circuit affect triac phase range, is it possible to control near whole period, or it have some limitations - on net found a couple circuit, that claims almost full control, but in the past I build some simple circuit and remember that it do only half of control over triac?...

by nicktasiosI had my Quadra 840AV (which I recapped and had working) plugged in for some time without using it and randomly decided to turn it on today. Unfortunately it did not turn on. After checking the PSU, I found out I was not getting anything from 12V, only from the 5V rail. After a few minutes, I removed the PSU and plugged it back in the electrical outlet and it suddenly started making a weird sound and soon after smoke started coming out. I quickly unplugged it. I opened it up but on first instance I didn't see anything out of the ordinary really. I later turned it back on and one of the MOVs blew...1 Photo12-22-2024, 05:07 AM

by NevilletHi All,
I'm trying to repair a coffee machine where the triac that controls the 240VAC water pump has failed and is latched on.
The water pump is controlled either on or off.
The triac is a surface mount BTA204S-800E. (datasheet attached)
I have a selection of other non surface mount triacs and need advise on selecting a substitute.
The triacs include BTA16, BT131, BTA208, BTA12, BT138, BTA06
Any help would be great.
Many thanks.02-17-2024, 11:30 AM - Loading...
