    LDO 3.3v vs 5v

I have a board on the back of a console for an elliptical machine that blew an LDO. I wasn't able to find any schematics for the board and the damage destroyed the label on the LDO. The board gets power from a 7.5v 1a WW. Does it matter if I use a 5v LDO instead of a 3.3v LDO? I went ahead & ordered the 5v but it is just a bit larger than the existing LDO.

thats the output voltage - get it wrong and your gonna write off whatever it powers.
what exactly is an eliptical machine?

what chips does the ldo supply power to?

Thanks for the reply - I am aware of what the LDO does. This is a console(monitor) for an IRONMAN elliptical exercise machine that is at least a decade old. The owner plugged in an incorrect power supply and it blew the LDO, which acted as a fuse. I guess I should try to find out what the power supply in question was outputting. There was another person online who had a similar thing happen to the same machine and said that he replaced the LDO with a 3.3v, it worked but the display was somewhat dim so he replaced the LDO with a 5v and he said it was much better, which is why I am asking here. I have limited info for this device. I did some research online to view similar board(s) designed by the same person and the LDO that was used was a 5v based on the part label & datasheet. I'm not sure if a picture of the board will help but I can provide one if it will.

if you find out the part numbers of the chips it powers then we can look up the voltage the chips expect
