    Good quality 18650 battery replacement

Not sure if this is the best place to put this or not, but seemed the most fitting.

I bought a old HP Omnibook 800CT for $0.99 as a little side project to play dos and early windows games on. I originally planned on putting in a CF card in lieu of a hard drive, as it wasn't going to come with one, but the seller for some reason included a hard drive anyways.

So I tried charging it, and the battery is stone dead. I peeled it open and whaddya know it's just 4 18650's.

I believe they are only 1350mah cells as the whole battery is rated at 7.2V, 2.7AH. There are four cells, with two banks of two cells being in series, and those two banks in parallel with each other.

So what would be a good quality replacement for these? I can find those chinese "5000mah" cells all day long on ebay and amazon for cheap. While they may actually be 2000mah cells I still don't trust them to not explode or loose capacity within 2 years.

I'm thinking either these or maybe these.

Do you need button top, like "AA," "C," "D," or solder tabbed cells?

well it is not a long term solution, but i wold just use some good ones from other batteries i have taken apart

They have a tendency to die in parallel, i.e. if they are in 2S3P so there may be one bank of 2P dead while others are okay.

But then again for long term solution i would use new Japanese batteries.

The one you try to link

        http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-7V-4-2V-31...item53fd24143b

        Or these

        http://www.ebay.com/itm/221167716818...84.m1423.l2649

You do not want to use these batteries because of the PROTECTION PCB in them there not need because the computer has a PROTECTION built in

I have rebuilt a few Ryobi Li-ion battery pack

The cells some of these battery packs are made in China and have a higher rate of bad cells in these battery pack 90 % one may be good out of five

The battery packs that have Japan made battery cells on the other hand have about 20 % bad cells in them 3 may be good out of five

Yes you right there is a lot fakes out there but I have bought from this seller before and these batteries are the real thing but they do not have the protection board in them

I have load tested these batteries before and the milliamperes rating is what it says it is

The testing that was done is as following example
A One . Five amp load and the load was left ON unit the battery voltage when to 3.0
The amount of time that battery held the load this tell you the amount of actual milliamperes the battery has this is how I do this test

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Genuine-Pa...3D230935281442

Do you need the batteries with the protection boards in the battery or with out that dose make a difference

What are going to do with them

gonna use them to power my diy 12v portable fans. an electronics project i've been wanting to do. beats those cheap usb portable fans on 5v. the application is fairly low current so should not be an issue requiring protection. just dont use a junk charger i guess?

the protection is also to prevent UNDER voltage!

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
                  by the_rem
                  Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

Here is a good used source for 18650 batteries
                  by sam_sam_sam
Here is a website I have ordered from before and the results that they claim are correct from what I have seen from the batteries I have bought from them

                  BatteryHookUp.com

                  https://batteryhookup.com/collection...odem-batteries

I have test about 5 battery packs ( out of 15 battery packs I bought) and have had very good results and so far have not found any bad cells

I have also bought these battery packs before on EBay and they are a good source for a battery case that holds 18650 batteries however...

Panasonic SA-XR25,Looking for a good replacement cap
                  by Jagster
I have a Panasonic SA-XR25 surround receiver that is not working and I believe it may have a faulty capacitor. This large capacitor near the mains power input has a plastic top that is bulged out. Anyhow, I'm trying to find a like replacement but Panasonic doesn't seem to make this capacitor any longer and I want to find a suitable replacement. It has an "AUDIO" designation written which I presume means something important in relation to the capacitors design characteristics. Can someone advise on what would be a good replacement? Image attached.

I posted another thread like this for a TV power supply. This is for information purposes for anyone who has a bad one and wants to repair instead of replace. There is no model number on these but internally they appear to be the same, fan being the only difference I can find. If a component is damaged and can't be identified, this may help. One I have has the brand name XinJieBao on the front above the display. The other isn't marked.

My impressions. I can't say for sure on the chips and such but the HV capacitor is a very low quality one if I think. I tried to google it and also...

Boston Acoustics HD8 – build quality impressions & DIY woofer surround repair

Boston Acoustics fans, this thread might not be for you.
A few years back (~2018 time frame), I picked up a set of free JVC speakers from someone on Craigslist that no one seemed to be interested in. The guy also had a single Boston Acoustics HD8 speaker – yes, just one cabinet. He said he had no idea where he got this one from or why it's only by itself. But like the JVC speakers, it was going to get tossed at the end of that week… so I came to collect, as usual. And that's all I know about this HD8. After all, I figured why not take it and see what's inside… show it to the...
