Battery packs with cells closest to +ve go first...

In a couple of defective battery packs I have handled, the cells closest to the positive terminal are the first ones to go (and leak), while the cells closest to the negative terminal are good. Is there any chemical reason why this happens?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

    Hi Japlytic,
What kind of batteries are you dissecting?
I tell my hands, "no don't do it" but all of a sudden I'm cutting into a pack of LI-ION.
The green ones. Some are NI-MH.
Mine are not simple series cells like the Makita 9000 which is NI-Cad. In those I'd guess since the drill motor is top mounted and that's where she gets hot, the contact end of pack should go first.
I commend you on saving these. They are nasty chemicals and to throw away 9 or 12 because of one or two dead are bad.
Words of Advice, don't rub your eyes, and wash your hands a lot.

Sony power division is just getting into deeper shit.
The apple power books are about to join recall.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
        by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

ISL88739AHRZ ISL88739 Laptop Battery Charger Datasheet
        by Document Archive
The ISL88739 & ISL88739AHRZ are a highly versatile combo battery charger
configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)
charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or
4-cell batteries. Both configurations allow the battery to work with
the adapter together to supply the system load when it exceeds
the adapter capability, referred to as system Turbo mode. HPB
charger configuration reverse-boosts battery energy to the system
bus to help the adapter provide the system power in Turbo mode.
        NVDC charger configuration...

Ryobi 36V (aka 40V) 6Ah Faulty Battery Pack
        by brispuss
Purchased a Ryobi 36V 6Ah battery pack maybe just over a year ago.

Battery pack had been used on about 3 or 4 occasions for powering a cordless lawnmower. I was wanting to use this battery pack again recently, but on checking the battery charge state via the battery pack test button, there was no LED indication at all of charge state which suggested the pack was fully discharged.

I found this to be odd as I usually fully recharge battery packs shortly after use. So either the pack developed some sort of fault which completely discharged the pack cells (after recharging),...

iPad Air A1475 Boot loops after replacing battery
        by trepachka
This iPad was working fine except the battery was not holding charge for more than 40 minutes. I replaced it with a new battery. I haven't glued the battery yet, just inserted it into the slot and held it with battery screw.

The iPad was powered on with the new battery and I am getting white screen with Apple logo for about 10 seconds, then the screen turns dark. It then cycles like this forever.

I know the battery is working because the iPad continues to boot loop without the charger until it depletes to 0% and the message displays I need to plug in the charger.

Lenovo T470P NM-B071P not charging, 20 volts on positive +ve battery terminal
        by Zibbo
Lenovo T470P NM-B071P had no power. PQ2 and PQ11 were shorted, repaced them and laptop turned ON. Connected the battery and the motherboard turned off immediately and it won't charge, checked the voltages and found out that there is 20v on the positive battery terminal.
Replaced battery charger IC PU101 and the two switching mosfets PQ101 and PQ102 and still same problem. Now I can't figure out how 20v is ending up on the battery terminals.
