    Questions regarding an isolation transformer build

    I am building an isolation transformer from the transformers pulled from 2 similar APC Backups UPS. Both units were 650s with rating of 410 watts. Currently I am testing it by connecting it to a dim bulb tester that is connected to a variac.

    When first powered up the 100w bulb will flash say about medium brightness then settle down to very dim where you can see the filament glow a dull red. full power on the variac give me an slightly brighter orange glow.

    I have left the setup running for more than a half hour this way and transformers never get warm.

    Currently I am testing it without the dim bulb tester in the middle.

    In the attached image you can see the way it is connected and the measurements from the first transformer. The second transformer has the same resistance measurements.

    I have tried various combinations of connecting the 2 transformers together, white and yellow to white and yellow, white and purple to white and purple, yellow and purple to yellow and purple, yellow and white to white and yellow, etc. the best combination is the first one and the last one. the other ones output about 6 volts less.

    Any suggestions on how to improve the circuit?

    After 1 hour the transformers both measure 99° f since they are class 130(b) I am guessing that is pretty good.

    I would expect that's about as good as you're going to get.

    I would add a circuit breaker and fuse so you don't overload the transformers.

      After seeing so many recommendations on here, I'm going to build an isolation transformer. My original plans were to get two identical transformers out of microwaves, split them and use both the primary coils, but I have been foiled by transformers with identical part numbers having slightly different dimensions. So I'm planning on just wrapping the second coil myself. (Maybe I make two!)

      I looked up the model number on the transformer, it's a ebj60664602 and is rated for 13A on the primary coil. No mention of a duty cycle though. Considering it's coming out of a homeowner microwave,...

      Hello Community,

      I'm attempting to repair the SMPS on a Levoit 600S air purifier. The transformer is likely open. It has six pins. 2 pairs on the primary side (one pair tested open) and 1pair of legs on the secondary side. Legs on the secondary side are spread wide apart (end-to-end). I've circled them in blue. Dimentons of the transformer are 22x23mm. Marking on the transformer are EE16 1.9mH-B. Fuse for the powerboard is fuse 250V 3.15A. I've been unable to find an exact match and I'm hoping for some help here to find a suitable replacment.

      When is talk about making isolation transformer on poor-man way, always I see schematic 240/12-12/240.
      So, I wonder, is this wiring from my attachment it work, bringing some good feature or it is bad idea and why?...

      Hello!

      I'm looking at an original Xbox PSU: Foxlink ftps-0002 rev. B. The 12 V output is too low, and the 5 V output is too (?) high. Unfortunately I don't have an oscilloscope but only a DMM for diagnosis.

      Measured voltages with no load:

      After rectifier diodes
      12V: 6.17 V
      5V: 5.67 V

      Secondary transformer pins AC measurement (really don't know if this says anything)
      12V: 2-2.5 V
      5V: 1.04 V


      I also have another (working) Xbox psu from Delta. The same measures there, in order, being: 10.79,...

      Hi all,
      Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
      Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
      My questions are
      1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
      2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
