    I need help finding this part 50117 C-G - TO - 252

    I need help finding this part 50117 - TO - 252

    I searched Digikey, Allied, and Fairchild electronics and nothing. 50117 = 5V - 3.3V Regulator
    C = 2.5V
    G = Green Package - not important - I dont think.

    I need it in a TO-252 package.

    Here is the PDF for it.

    50117 = 5V - 3.3V Regulator
    C = 2.5V
    So does it says on it C on the chip to determine it's 2.5v or it's the plain 3.3v version? Either way, if it's the one with the 3 pins and on the board the first pin is not connected to ground, then it's adjustable so it doesn't matter.

    The chip is a linear voltage regulator that may have a fixed setting from factory, but can also be adjusted if that adjust pin is not connected to ground. If you see C on the chip or it says 50117-25 or something like that, it's the 2.5v preset version. If you see K or -33 it's the one with fixed 3.3v output.
    If the first pin is connected to ground, it means the chip will use the preset output voltage set inside. If the first pin goes to a trace that has some resistors, then those resistors set the output voltage and you can use any adjustable voltage regulator with low enough voltage drop to work at 5v input.

    If there's no C or K or you don't see 25 or 33 on the IC, that means the voltage is actually adjusted on the board using that adjust pin, which means you can use any low drop voltage regulator in to-252 package, that has a voltage drop low enough to work at 5v.

    So go on digikey, filter by to-252 , positive fixed or adjustable, If you want select voltage out = 3.3v or 2.5v (i'm not sure if you have 2.5v or 3.3v version) , current 1A and more, in stock

    Then when you look at the parts' datasheets, make sure the voltage drop is less than 5v-3.3v = 1.7v (majority of the ldos are 1.1-1.25v drop so you won't have problems finding)

    these will probably work (double check) for 5v to 3.3v - all three default to 3.3v if the adjust pin is connected to ground on your pcb, or to whatever resistance is on the adjust pin so they work at any voltage above 4.5v or so:

    http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...ICT-ND/1301516 (ignore the minimum of 6.3v input listed on page, it needs minimum 4.8v to do 3.3v out, says so in the datasheet)

    http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...ICT-ND/2095619

    ... and so on.

    One more thing you should check is if the tab is ground or Vout on the old part - the datasheet doesn't say or I don't see. On the ones above the tab is Vout...

    later edit:

    here's the 5v to 2.5v versions (to match what you need if it has C on it) :

      I,
      See in Farnell site all regulaters LM1117 series and find what you need.

      Cps.

        Thanks guys for your info. I will try to purchase tomorrow. Here is a pic of the chip but I now have all the info I need, thanks to your help.

          The chip you suggest's output current is 800mA. It may work but this one that died was capable of 1A. I dont know what it saw when it died but... I'll look for 1A again.

            The datasheet says typical current limit 1200mA, minimum 800mA, when the voltage drop is 5v. You won't have quite 5v drop in the circuit as it does 2.5 from 5v or something around that value, but the IC would probably still do 1000mA or whereabouts.

            0.8A is more or less the guaranteed minimum value for which the regulator will stay within the parameters they advertise (max 0.2% line regulation, max 0.4% load regulation)

            However, this 800mA is a limit that depends on the manufacturer. The same 1117 chip made by others is rated for 1A or 1.5A - see the links I recommended a few posts above, they're also 1117 but made by other companies and they're rated for 1A or more.

            Anyway, at 0.3-0.5$ a piece, it's not worth risking it, just pick one from another manufacturer or another IC that has fixed 2.5v output at min 1A.

              Maybe LDO 1084 series with package TO-252 will easy fit your requirement,but higher price.

              search ldo 1084

                  I have an order on it's way from Digikey. Thanks to all who helped. Now I'm just playing the waiting game. I gotta do some house chores to keep busy.
