1/3rd of screen black with occasional vertical lines - repair attempt for learning! - Kogan KALED58RT9220SVA
    by Firentiosi
Thanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.

The issues are as follows: the...

Zotac RTX 3060 , another learning experience
    by 90Ninety
Disclaimer Firstly I am by no means expert and this is still a learning experience , I buy broken stuff , with the intention to fix or learn something by failing.. I wanna break this into a few sections, please feel free to mention the section if replying , to assist me on getting a better understanding

Part 1 , identifying Rails .. So for the record , I understand on NVIDIA cards there are several Rails. Along with their Supposed Voltages ( Voltage depends on age/ generation )

Part 2. Blown / Missing component check .. I purchased this from the original...

Repair SXJ2010 power supply board for learning
    by mikey5791
    Hi,
Got this junk brand ATX power supply board extracted from a dead power supply. There is only a label of SXJ2010 V1.4 from underneath the pcb. It only has 5v standby power.
I removed the original 5A glass fuse and soldered on a 60w incandescent bulb as current limiter. Upon power on to mains 230v ac, the bulb lighted brightly and then shuts off. By using a multimeter, i got about 100vdc on each of the main cap of 470uf, 200v. There is no other voltage on the secondary side apart from the 5vsb purple wire.
My question is it safe to take measurement of dc voltage from the...

    AC-DC rectifier 5V, 2A learning and testing
    by Adenitz
    Hello guys,
I have a TV box power supply adapter, 5V, 2A that's not working correctly. Input is AC 230V 50 Hz.
I would like to use this as a learning example.
First of all, when adapter is connected to AC power, there is 5 V DC at its output (4.95V) when no load is connected.
If a small light bulb is connected (5V, 0.3A), the output voltage drops to 0.85V and there is a weak light on the bulb.

Attached is a picture of PCB. There are two black IC s on the board. The smaller one 4 legs is probably a voltage feedback chip. On it is written something like:...
