    Change LCD to VFD

I changed a 2x16 LCD with a 2x16 VFD in my alarm system.
It works just fine, but I got a question.
When you press a key on the keypad, the LCD backlight turns on.
These leads are of course not needed with a VFD, so I've connected these two wires to a little relay, that switches the 50v from the VFD transformer on and off. So, everytime a key is pressed, 50v is passed to the dispaly, and when you log off, 50v is shot off. This is done to incresae the life of the display.
But, is there something wrong with this, can you see any problems or is ok ?

I see no issue with this at all.

Keep in mind that VFDs have lifespans exceeding 20 years in continuous operation.

Might make some kind of difference to the life but probably nothing noticeable or anything to worry about.

          The filament uses 50V?

That sounds more like a plate voltage, and leaving that on won't change the life of the display much.

Rob, I'd like to hear more specifics on your project. What prompted you to change the display type? An LCD driver IC cannot be used to drive a VFD, so this sounds like a lot of re-design and changing IC's.
            Is it plugged in?

I changed it, because VFD looks WAY cooler, only reason.
And it was not that much work. I bought a Futaba VFD with LCD emulator, if the LCD and the VFD board have had same size, then it just been a swap.
I had to change the mounting a little. And luckely, the 5v supply was no problem, plenty of juice.

              This is the VFD;

I have also just finished my own hardware/software project with a 2x40 VFD, and the code will run a screen saver every 30mins, that first clear screen, then light up each character one by one and then goes back to normal display mode.

                Honeywell Accenta G3 tamper alarm
                by Tom41
This house has a Honeywell Accenta G3 alarm system. If the main unit loses power for any reason, the external siren sounds - even if the alarm is not even armed! Entering the code to disarm it is not an option as the keypads are completely dead when the power is out.

I presume this means the backup battery inside the box has failed, but I can't get in there and replace it without also setting off a tamper alarm! Is there any way to disable the tamper alarm so that electrical work can be carried out with the power off? Or a way to replace the backup battery without setting off the...

                Alarm Siren issue
                by slybunda
Apologies if this is in the wrong section but being a car alarm siren that makes noise i thought it be best to put it in the audio section.
Had weird alarm issues where siren made a strange noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjsqndhionU
took siren out of the car and checked it out and pics attached seem to be the source of the issue.
shockingly the alarm still makes its normal sound if i trigger it manually so speaker seems to be intact.
getting a replacement is gonna be next to impossible, its a Toad Ai606 which is no longer in production and cant see to find a replacement...

                Hi all,

at firs, i hope this is the right place to post my question.

i know that HP has a build in option to change the splash logo.

but i want to change the manufacturer logo to an own logo.

I try'd Change Logo 5.0, but when i make a backup of an laptop and edit the logo and flash the editted version back on the laptop the logo diddnt change.

Does anyone know about 16x2 LCD screens used in alarm keypads?
                by Ady2017
I have got an old Gardtec GT595 alarm which has got a faulty keypad with a failed LCD screen. This was apparently a very common problem with these and many people have had to replace the whole alarm because of this problem. Somebody claims to be able to repair the keypads by replacing the screen and I have tried it myself by replacing the LCD with a commonly available HD44780 1602 16x2 Serial LCD screen but it is not working. I am sure it is a problem with a driver or simular which is not allowing the screen to talk to the rest of the electronics. Does anyone know what this original screen was...

Advice needed-Technika 32-207 works but sticks on channel, won’t change channels ok
                by rustinjust
My tv will work for a while and change channels with the remote as it should but then it will stick on one channel only and work ok but it won't change channels. I have tried unplugging it for hours and whilst unplugged pressing the power button on the tv to reset it.

The volume button on the remote still works but it just won't change channels once it decides to stick on one channel

It has built in basic freeview tv here in the uk, I've tried doing an automatic search to reset the tv but nothing works.

I have to turn the tv off and then on again with...
