I've just bought a slightly used HTC Diamond for $82. It looks great, there are only a couple very minor scratches on the display (fixable with a little Displex methinks), came with all the standard accessories plus a genuine HTC leather pouch.
Story is as follows: The owner bought it from someone else last week for $140, but noticed later that the G-sensor only works up and down. He took to "the only authorized HTC service center in Romania" and they said something about a broken foil and asked for over $150 to fix it, so he decides to sell it. He'd just picked it up from service today (the diagnosis itself cost him $5 so they didn't even give it back for free). He could've sold it for more, but lucky me.
So, i check it out, and accidentally drop it. It falls flat on its back. Okay, it isn't hurt, everything works, i pay the guy and leave with the phone. On the subway back home everything fine, but at home when i try to connect to wifi it won't start. I reboot the thing and i get the dreaded MicropError. Then the backlight decides only to work when it wants to.
I read that it's a hardware problem so i take the thing apart, and find the wifi cable dangling around, and also when i lifted the mainboard out the screen cable unhooked itself from the connector. I reconnected the wireless cable then noticed that the other cable clicks into place when the mainboard is pushed back in, the screen cable does not.
So i used a flat screwdriver to firmly press the LCD cable in its connector then put a piece of folded paper under it so it doesn't move around anymore (ghetto fixes FTW). I put the thing back together, power up, and i haz working HTC.
The G-Sensor still only works up and down, but i always found those sensors silly so i don't really care if it works or not. So, for just five bucks diagnostic charge, you too can have your HTC reassembled poorly. Gotta love Romania.
Well, i've heard horror stories about HP repair people using screwdrivers to pry laptops apart in more civilized parts of the world as well, so we're not the only ones.
Pics later.
