Fairchild µL 92328 ... what is it?

Anyone have any ideas what the Fairchild µL 92328 IC is?

Package: Looks like a half TO-5 can except plastic, dark brown, 8 pins.. Keyed by a flat spot on the circumference.

Assumptions: This is a Logic IC of some ancient technology as it's on a logic board of an ancient digital circuit using RTL 2-input NOR gates, unsure of total function, which would be revealed if i figure out what the µL92328 is.

Closest I got was ECG/NTE that reported it was obsolete... but of course it is...

Appears that people are selling these NOS but no hints at the logic function.

Estimate age: about 55-60 years old.

Fairchild Micrologic series came out in 1961 in metal TO-5, TO-18 8-lead can. I think among the first digital IC's. Outsourced packaging to Hong Kong was another first. Hmmm.
uL923 RTL Dual J-K Flip Flop. Epoxy package must be the early 1970's but not full mil spec. -55 to +125C.
Some gates made it into the Apollo Guidance computer.

edit: I can't find the suffix codes, "923EC" is epoxy consumer temp range, "28" might be a batch/date code?

Thanks, that was annoying, the actual part number is 923 and not 92328 or 9232... This was clearly in the late 1960s so yep.

It appears to be a single, not dual - 8 pins is not enough pins to squeeze two JK presettable flip flops. DIP16 CD4027 or SN7476 would be necessary...

Oops it is a single flip-flop. Kinda neat seeing an AND gate etc. in a small can package. The tech appears to be the outcome of the Apollo space program where they used RTL, trickled down to people.
Not sure what to make with them, dividers for a discrete digital clock maybe?

Re: Fairchild µL 92328 ... what is it?

Well, the circuit I have was some sort of digital display for some ancient quantitative chemical analysis equipment alas it's parted and disposed of now. I was wondering if I could trace the circuit and add or cut some wire here and there to make something out if the circuit. It already drives 4 NIXIE tubes so must be able to do something with it. Knowing these are JKFFs is a big step, the circuit now is known to have JKFFs, decade counters, NOR gates, and the NIXIE drivers...

Re: Fairchild µL 92328 ... what is it?

Based on the examples I see and the ones I have, the part number is always 92328 -- there is a 3 digit code after the 92328 like -815 which I think is the date code. So the "28" part remains a mystery - it even has a sample 92328 in the datasheet...

My current guess is that the 28 has something related to its plastic case.

I don't think the single gate ICs have gone away, there are those 74AHCT1G00 or something like that, a sot23-5 that has a single NAND gate.

Granted a TO-5/TO-18 is easier to work with than a sot23, maybe a DIP8 would work too.

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
              by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....

Will I have a bricked logic board after reflow of the GPU v-core U8900 chip on my Mid-2012 15" Retina Macbook pro?
              by korben_dallas
Hi everyone! I'm trying to fix my black screen / failed U8900 GPU v-core on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retinaby doing a rework/reflow of the chip (once I determine that's the real issue; but it likely is).

I've been disabling the GPU in NVRAM for a few years... but it's just time for a better solution.

I'm new to soldering but the only feasible way to fix this issue is to do something myself.

              MY QUESTION:
I've been seeing some people (on this forum mostly) run into issues with the logic board needing a serial number or it being deactivated (?)...

LG 60PK550 Logic Control Board EBR63450301
              by Yanleb
Hi all, I just want to share the repair of my 60PK550-UA TV set.

The TV set was powering on, just no image. After verification, nothing wrong on the YSus or ZSus boards. Nothing wrong on the main board either.

But I noticed that the LED was not flashing on the Logic Control Board. This is an EBR63450301. The LED is supposed to flash even with all the flat cables disconnected, with only the power cable attached.

All the voltages measured at the electrolytic capacitors on the board were good. From top left to bottom right:
              C57: 3.30V
              C61:...

              Logic Board 820-00840-A Missing EDP_BKLT_EN
              by mferna14
Hi dear friends., I am working on a Apple MacBook Pro A1708 , Logic Board 820-00840-A that has no backlight. The logic board powers on fine, but no display. After Checking on the backlight driver chip, I found that the EDP_BKL_EN is missing. And this Power Enable comes from the PCH. So does this means this Logic board cannot be repaired & brought back to life again? The resistance from GRD to the test point of EDP_BKL_EN is around is 0.66M ohms. R8442 (0ohms) is ok. Any suggestion/Tip if any would really appreciate.

              Logic Board 820-01987-A missing PP3V3_S5
              by mferna14
Hi good Friends., today working on a Macbook Pro A2289, Logic board 820-01978-A. The history was liquid spill, Cleaned & replaced all corroded components & now the logic board shows 20v & .01amp on the meter. Not taking in any amps. Upon trouble shooting I get the required stable voltages 5V, PP3V3_G3H 3.3V but no PP3V3_S5. Checked the schematic, assume that this is generated from U7800. Checked all the Input/Output voltages on this chip. All is fine, except PP3V3_S5 is missing. Resistance from GND to PP3V3_S5 is 146 Kohms. First I need to make sure whether PP3V3_S5 is generated from...
