Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Tried two more tips, one large chisel for soldering xt60 connectors, melted the solder into the large cups nicely. The other was a smaller bevel for soldering wires. No regrets about this purchase. I also printed a stand to hold the tips where I can see them because unless they are within easy reach, I probably wouldn't bother to use them. I imagine the really fine tips will wear quickly, but I don't forsee really using those unless I have something that specifically requires it.
So far so good.

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
I received the tips from: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001204730953.html
I only tried one tip so far, the same tip that came with my hakko 888d. It's not quite as quick to deliver heat as the stock one, but still pretty good. Certainly servicable and I hope to get much use out of them. If my appraisal of them changes, I'll update.
It's miles better than the generic 900m tips I bought that I could barely melt solder with.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
i dont use the tip, i use the bend
but it does get hot enough to melt solder at the tip.
if i want to do that though i switch to the ILSLeave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Thanks, yes indeed, I did saw NorthridgeFIx doing that with bevel and blade (good) tips and (good) flux) and solder. I have too bad tips and solder, but I ordered a T12 iron (Quiko), I’ll should be able to do it soon.
Where are you buy T12 tips pls ? I looked Ksger’ official store on AE but they don’t have lot of tips. I will try short bent tip, but I’m hesitating between bevel and blade for use the desoldering braid, and for apply solder ?
For Kapton, I tryed 400C (750F) and it become soft and floats with hot air but does not retract. A good one.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
This may be true but at least you will be able to get the component in place and then clean the joint and reapply fresh solder as necessary. All with two hands.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Halide is needed to solder to metals like brass.
that may not sound important till you have to put a wire on a microswitch for example!Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Thanks,
I dont tryed to put solder on tip. I learned to solder many years ago and I learnd we must put solder only on component and not on tip. But with flux, yes, that could be possible.
I’ll probably try HS10, with lead. It seems halide is only in lead free solder wire. I prefer a low melt for solder-disolder with hot air without moving other components.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Sorry for my english. I need wire but I'm looking paste too. For soldering 0402, I fix one with a hand, I have iron in my other hand and I have no third hand for add solder. I guess it's could be easy to first « glue » component with a little bit of paste, and solder one side with iron. The component will should not move anymore. And finish with iron and wire for soldering 2 sides.
For wire, wich one Stannol pls ? There is lot of models. I saw one with 3.5% flux.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
flux choice is important,
1st rule - Halide is good!
so ones i would choose are kristall511 or HS10
kristall is synthetic, HS10 is a blend with rosin in it.
in the solder i mean - not seperate flux.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
I mostly use hot air for component removal. Solder paste is a bit messy, if I can, I'd rather place components and use an iron. It's very, very easy to put too much paste down. A plate to preheat the board really helps with hot air, I need to buy/make one.
Mechanics solder paste has been ok for me, but I don't have anything to compare to. I have the Pb 63% IIRC.Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Iron was at 280C (526F) and 350C (660F).
U can see the same in video on Ytb. Search ; « cyrob kapton ». At 5:00 he say the hot air is 450C (842F).
I bought the same at same vendor. This is what I expected from Kapton..
I have another question about solder. I have bad one. It is pasty and hang other components. I will try the brand « mechanic », it seems good. But i saw the « solder paste » and it seems easyest for solder little smd (0402) without putting traces of solder on the components. Do u use it?Leave a comment:

Re: Quality solder iron tips and Kapton ?
Me too, soon. Last week I bought « Amazon first choice » 900m tips. Deutch sticker on the pocket, but in use, just chineses ones. The same I bought before. They was a little bit best but finaly, unable to tin them. I finished to solder with the best one : my old first tip delivered with my 900m soldering iron (branded… Amazon !)
I will send back to Amazon and buy T12 solder iron.
I have question about T12 pls ? I saw thin handle and normal handle, what is the best for SMD pls ? And the shape of tips, what do you use ?
I received the kapton, it’s good. I dont used hot air yet but with soldering iron, i touch it and it dont move while the other (chinese one) was holed.Leave a comment:

by liquidzorchHello.
I have a soldering station, 862D+, and every time the hot air gun is on, even if it is just cooling off, the soldering iron controller stops controlling. Let me explain what has happened so far, as it took a while to get to this.
First, the switch that turns on the hot air gun started to fail, the light came on, but temp never rose, I would have to switch it multiple time to get the gun to start heating, this was due to the contact inside being carbonized. I opened the switch up, clean the contacts, and it would work fin for a while until carbonized again. So, I ordered a switch... -
by abajorLike title says A2141 came in with Water Damage, customer desperately wants the data.
The actual water ingress doesn't appear too bad it sat for a day but was very dusty internally. I have no idea why L8504 was arced there is no apparent moisture there or around the LVDS cable; however, the LVDS to screen screw studs had popped off at some point and somebody tried securing it with kapton tape.
I had to create a micron wire pad jumper to reconnect the south side of the L8504 since the primary pad was blasted down to the vias.
That said after cleaning up the... -
by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -
