I read where they said the prefered is a desoldering station, however would a electric desoldering pump (kind of looks like a soldering iron type) be to dangerous? Or will it surfice to maybe use it 1 or 2 times on the hole before it may cause damage?

I say it's all in the technique.
I have used a butain powered iron and actually had momentum clear the holes.
I had a soft cloth, and after reflowing at a good temperatute I Gently but squarely smack the solder out.
To anyone near you it may look like you're really pissed off at your motherboard.Jim

works great.
so here's the discoveries.
the pump "modules" have 4 parts, the main body, the outside bit, the inside bit - screwed to the main body, and the diaphram.
the failure is the inside bit, it has a rubber coating for some reason that becomes tacky and breaks down - contaminating the diaphram.
so you need to clean everything to get rid of all the tacky black stuff.
then reassemble it.
*BUT*
you must put the 2 screws into the assembly only finger-tight.
if you tighten it properly the valves dont work.... -
