    Sony XBR-55x900F mainboard replace firmware upgrade

    Hello every body, I found a bad main on this tv so I ordered a replacement and I installed the new one and powered up the tv to find a dead tv with flashing red/green power led. I contacted the seller and was told I need to upgrade the firmware in order for the new main board to work.

    How do I upgrade a tv that is dead wont power up?

      Hello,

      If your getting flashing amber/green light the tv is not dead. It’s simply asking for the firmware update. You will need to download the firmware from Sony’s website and put it on a thumb drive. Plug the thumb drive into the USB port and plug the tv into power. Press the power button and it will flash amber/green then go to a pulsing white once it is installing. It can take up to 45min so be patient.           Careful though, make sure to be patient. Don't unplug the set willy nilly. That can break the board. I suggest watching the entire video and then going back and following the steps.

              Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

              Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me.
