    Could use some psu help

Have two psu's from around 04 with the ultra being used 24/7 until 2-3 years ago. Still works ok but as you can see has some bulging caps. The bestec has been 24/7 for about 2-3 years and no clue before that. The 5vsb on the bestec is iffy and needs to be warmed up before it will work and also has some bulged caps.

I want to recap them but I am a noob at this and not sure what replacements I should get. Here is a list of the caps if you can help.

Sorry for not making threads in the power supply section but I figured one thread may be better than 2 at the same time.

Well I found this from when ratdude did a 300 watt with ideas for the bestec. It's a different model but same type caps. www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=36835

Not sure on the ultra though. I know i'd like to order what i need for these a motherboard and a router this week though.

i used Nichicon PW series on my 500 watt. Seems to work just fine. I'm not an expert though. I thought the experts would have jumped in by now.

the cap list is missing the diameters.

having said that, it's always the same advice anyway.
panasonic FR / FC / FK or the rubycon / nichicon / chemicon equivelents.

Stj, that is the problem i don't know the equivalents. Some of the other things you guys have helped me fix I had bought other caps and found out they were wrong even though it was the right microfarad and voltage.

BTW the last number is how many are on the board.

well in europe, panasonic is cheapest - so we use panasonic.

i have a feeling, in the u.s. nichi / chemicon are cheaper - some u.s. based person needs to chime in on this.

I would use a spreadsheet such as a free copy of Open Office Calc and make a new list with the following columns: Quantity, uF Value, Voltage, Diameter, Length, Lead Spacing, and Series. I typically use the Panasonic FR series available at MouserElectronics. Search aluminum electrolytic capacitors, leaded and then do the drill down.

Ok I see in the data sheet that the FR like FM are low esr. This is ok to use in all of them? Since only one says low esr I didn't think the others would be.

Good idea on the spreadsheet. I planned on marking a picture or ms point of locations since I was going to pull them all to get spacing.

                      It's right the jee 2200uf 16v is 12 diameter x 26mm long. Same with the 2200uf 10v but it is 8 x around 26mm long.

Can anyone explain why the they use 2 different 10uf 50v caps on the ultra? They are both jee but one is 8mm tall while the other is 12mm tall and both 5mm diameter.

Your guess is as good as mine. Both say jee 10uf 50v and both have IM0518 on them. The only difference is height and the short one has a light blue stripe and the other 3 have a gold stripe.

oh well, they have about 20 different types, but if they cant be assed to print the 2letter code on them then we wont know.

still, a cap that's better than it needs to be, is better than a cap that's not good enough!

Atleast you found spec sheets I couldn't even find that.

Making a spreadsheet just have to look up part numbers and availability yet. So far panasonic seem similarly priced to ucc and nichicon from what i've looked at so far. Haven't done the lead spacing either.

Also found a couple 470uf 25v ZL caps i had left over and a 1000uf 16v MCZ but it's smaller than the ones in there now.

you shouldnt use XLS format, it changes a bit with each release of the software.
very useless infact - 90% of the time, it wont open properly for other people.

I use openoffice and libre on linux but that pc is one i need caps for. The defaults aren't on the list of being able to upload. Guess I could have zipped it. I think office is backwards compatible so used the excel 95. Wasn't sure what everyone would have so figured it would be the best.

Opens fine when i downloaded it and tried.
