    Replacement capicitor

Just a quick one guys think I already know the answer but might as well ask...

Got hundreds of capicitors but haven't got any 1000uf 50v and can't get any till next week.. Is there any possible way around this? I've searched all my spare parts and still can't find one? I know the voltage can be higher but can you get away with using a lower voltage capicitor? Something like a 1000uf 35v?

    Cheers!

NEVER go lower! You could make a lot of trouble for your self.

No. you can't go lower in voltage and you shouldn't go lower in capacity either.

Capacitors generally for electrolytics have a 20% tolerance so in theory with that in mind yo may get away with something in that range. as for the voltage you would need to provide some information or determine where it sits in the cct and work out what voltage is at that point

          Re: Replacement capicitor

If you replace your cap with a much lower voltage rated part, you risk damaging other components when you cap blows up. So, to answer your question, "no" you cannot replace your 50V part with a 35V part. Trust me, manufacturers are NOT putting in "extra" headroom in their component selection - if they put in a 50V part somewhere in a circuit, it needs a 50V part.

If it's used for basic filtering, maybe use a 1200uf 50V cap? Maybe some 50V caps in parallel? This will affect ESR, but you really didn't say what the cap is being used for.

Can't he use 2x500uf caps in parallel or series???

Look it up. I've seen it somewhere online. Probably one Ave's YT channel.
Disclaimer: Don't trust a thing I say-I am frequently wrong!!!

I have tons of spare parts, some used, some N.O.S. ham transistors and caps. Message me if you need any parts.

Some of the things I've fixed:
60" Vizio-bad LED's. iBook G4: Resoldered VCC Plug. Geo Tracker ECU: Swollen / Leaking capacitors. Windows Laptop: Soldered broken LVDS wires. Dryer: Burned contact on temp switch. Oven in R.V.: Bad contacts in relays-Exploded by the looks of them! Samsung Oven: Burned contacts on Relays. MSI Motherboard: BSOD-Swollen capacitors, bad graphics card, Moved SATA Input from SATA 1 to SATA 2 plug

he could put 2x 500uf in series, (well, 2x 470uf), but they would still need to be rated at 50v or higher, or else they will fail very quickly again.

Putting two caps in series will reduce the capacitance, not increasing the capacitance. It is opposite from the resistor.
