Samsung LE40R87BD clicking/bad video then all good

Good evening again badcapers,

I have an issue that is simular to some on here but not the same (that I can see after a search) after a few hours to cool down (so I think temp related) when the unit is started up you get a click and bad video sometimes it makes cracking sounds too and then shuts down, it restarts and goes through this several time with the video getting better and better until it finaly its all good and has no further issues al all. As a matter of course it has had the cap upgrade and eeprom replacement/reset. Have any of you come across this particular issue before and if so whats the best couse of action with regards to repair. Thanks again for your valued input :-)

This is the two 1000uf 10v SMD cap under the heat sink on the main board ,remove the main board and take of the heat sink (cover over the processor ) heat the tabs to release, after removing the cover you will see the two 1000uf 10v cap that are side by side.in the past I have used 1000uf 10v non SMD caps if you put them on there side they will fit under the cover just watch the polarity ? dont try running the main with the cover removed as you risk damage to the processor. hope this is of help to you Flocko

+1 Also replace the Epprom if that doesnt work

The Eeprom has been replaced with the caps on the power board

Hello again peeps so just to clarify we are talking about the board below and the two large caps that were under the heat shield labeled V0013 1000 10T? C1110 and C1177

Yes replace those two, you can use standard caps just with the legs bent over.

Yes the two 1000Uf 10v side by side, you can replace like for like, or use radial caps and lay them on there side?(more chance of have these to hand) be careful of the polarity. refit the cover before testing as it acts as a heat sink as well for the ICs

You must make sure you get the cover on properly if not you will kill the CPU these get very hot !

Thanks for your help guys I don't have any around here so I've ordered some localy I took some pictures of the heat shield underside are those scorch marks from the caps or dust deposits? I'll post back once its all up and running again :-)

They sit under that heat sink and cook, did you go for SMD aluminum caps ? I have not seen one of these sets in a long time, but have repaired a lot with this fault in the past

Heres a tip as well apply some thermal paste on the Cpu's as well when you put the cover back on.

No worries helps them cool a bit better, they get very hot on these boards.

Thanks for all your help badcappers, This is now back up and running again :-D. I just have one more query as I have replaced the Eeprom what info do I need to check and how do I make sure its correct? I've checked the settings in the service manu and it says the tv is a 37" when I know its a 40" I can see how to adjust the info to 40 but there is more than 1 40 option so how do I determin the correct settings? thanks

Could I also add that the heatsink pads leak an oily liquid,
that can get under the IC's and give give similar problems,
wash/clean with isopropyl alcohol

That will be the Thermal grease that is there for heat transfer between heat sink /pad and processor, remove that and the main board will be toast in no time unless its replaced ?it has no electric conducting properties only heat so leakage should not be a problem

Good evening, this is now all fixed thank you all for your kind help with it. Can I ask one more thing I have carried out the power board update and replaced the Eeprom what I want to know is what settings in the service menu do I need to check/adjust and where can I get the info to input from?
