    Samsung la40r81bd

    Hi All
First and foremost Happy 2012, I am newbie to this so please be gentle on me I am trying to pickup electronic repair as hobby and I really enjoy it and I just started it 6 months back, I was able to fix 2 TVs easy fix bad caps
I have this TV SAMSUNG LA40R81BDX, I managed to replace the capacitors that were bulging as shown in picture because TV was no picture, so I was happy as this was going to be another easy fix; however when I tried turning it on it still did the clicking noise! I had checked every single cap and all seem to be ok as I got Blue ESR meter, I have attached photos of replaced caps, there are 5 of them

I had read along the internet that a lot of people seem to point out is it corrupted EEPROM and mentioned that joining pin 5-6 for few seconds then turning TV on the de-solder the link between the pin 5-6 but the problem I cannot find the IC 1803 people been talking about? The one I found on PCB board I have is 1803 but it is only 5 pins and not 6?

I have attached photos and if you need more let me know.

Can someone please advise me on how I am supposed to go about this? Where is the EEPROM and how can I fix this, your effort and time is much appreciated and thanks in advance.

While the pics have excellent focus and clarity, they are too small to read the pcb. Try to get a picture as close, but not over, to 2000x2000 and less than 2MB.

        Thanks for your time,

multimeter, the caps i replaced are as follows

1000UF 35V (replaced 1000UF 10v) is was told it is Panasonic - [34VTX - (M) CE FC] Golden and blue in color

2200uF 10v (replaced same value) is was told it is Panasonic - [SXE (M) 4 (2) NQ] Grey/redish and white in colour

1000uf 25v - VENT and (something then UX cannot really make it but i think YUX) color black and white

Retiredcaps, i had attached photos and hope they help let me know if you need more; i had divided the PCB into sections so that i can get clearer photos

          Panasonic usually have "T" vents.

United Chemicon caps are brown with a "crown" symbol. They usually have a "Y" or Mercedes Benz vent.

Have you looked for the eeprom on the main or logic board? Normally eeproms are on that board and not the power board.

          From

          http://www.tv.quuq.org/forum/index.p...e;topic=2377.0

For anyone with the same problem the procedure is as follows.
On this model the eeprom in question is IC 1803 (24C256) 8 pin smd and is located on the underside of the main board near the common interface. The clock and data pins are pins 5 and 6 and are identifiable by the 100 ohm smd resistors connected to each of them. Fit a shorting link (on long wires) between the pins. Reassemble the chassis. Switch on and then remove the short. Bring the set out of standby. Now access the service mode as follows-
Using the remote control, switch to standby, press info, menu, mute and power. The set should start and display the service menu. Using scroll keys select item 8 and enter by scrolling right. Select "tuner" and set to auto. Revert to previous screen by pressing menu. Now scroll to "reset" and enter by scrolling right. The set will revert to standby. Power back on and tune in stations.

            Re: Samsung la40r81bd

if memory serves me correct that model of tv has general purpose caps in it,so if you had true panny fc series then that would be fine, replacing the 10v 1000uf with 35v ones is a good choice as these are the ones that cause the non existent voltages on a couple of rails coming out of the psu,i think your best bet is to,(with tv powerd on)check output voltages on the cn connectors, against the legends next to them,ie 3.3v,12v,etc,if there is a ps-on check this with meter black on ground ,and red in the ps-on pin,you should have 3.3v-5.0v,pressing the on button on tv should cause the voltage to drop on your meter, that will tell you if the psu is giving power to main board,if all voltages are correct then your power supply should be fine, you really want to test other things first before going into the eeprom side ,can be a bit fiddly,if all else fails then go with retiredcaps suggestion on the eeprom reset

Hi guys, new to this forum, and found a lot of helpful information on it. I also have had the wonderful "clicking" problem on my 40" samsung LCD. I pulled it apart and replace all the capacitors with the equivilents that were in there as a couple appeared to have a bulge on the top. Plugged it back in and still clicks on and off. Have read that many people were required to reset the eeprom. I have looked across my board and am unable to find the IC1803 8pin smd. I have attached two photos of both sides of my board. If you want photos of the other board as well please ask.

The number of the below pictured board is BN94-011960.
The model of the TV is a Samsung LA40R81BD. (4years old)
The number on the board in which I replaced the capacitors is BN4400165A.

If anybody could please assist me it would be much appreciated. I live in Australia and Samsung here were going to charge $100 to look at it. Have since purchased a 55" Sony but still want to get this one going if I can.

                          Hi there,

I followed the instructions shortly short pins 5 & 6 with a long wire), and it works like a charm; my problem is that I have got no remote, so, is there a way of accessing the Service Menu *without* the remote?

As of now, it does switches on and stays on, and I can access the normal menu ... BUT, I cannot access the HDMI input or any other input for that matter, except the one from the aerial.

                          What do I do?

                          Thanks, much appreciated,

                          Stefano.

Hi, Followed this guide and turned a $2 non-working LCD from the tip into an awesome TV! Thank you all so much for giving me the confidence and know how to attempt this. Swapped the 10v caps for 16V ones. Didn't start. Shorted pins 5 and 6 on the ic1803 chip via a long wire and a pair of coke bottle glasses. BINGO sceen came alive....Didn't have a remote but got a $25 HARMONY 200 universal one, set it up and was able to get into the service manual. followed TW2005's link for the service bulliten (awsome job). set values as described and followed the instructions and buddabing buddabang... tuned in and watching now. Once again... thanks.. you guys sooooo rock!!!

Hi, im new to this site too, Im trying to repair the same psu bn4400165a.
Im only have the psu and main as it was posted to me for repair but they didn't send the cable to connected them. So I shorted "ps on" pin 1 with pin 3 5v to switch on the power supply, I don't know if this is addviseable but it did switch on the other voltages.
Im only reading 11v on the 12v & 13v rails. I checked the caps with an esr meter I think they were ok as they were on average 0.5ohms higher than recommended. I have a schematic.
                              thanks
p.s im not sure how to make my own thread.

                                          Hi all,
I got an old Samsung 225MW TV with BN41-00825 motherboard.
Since the TV has a buzzer when it starts it makes a beep. The main problem is that the TV goes in a sort of bootloop and beeps every 2-3 seconds.
So I attached the VGA UART cable and read the debug data using a RT809H programmer:

Now the TV boots but it's stuck on VGA. If I try to change the source it goes to TV, restarts...
