    AOpen AX4BS Pro with bad Lelon caps

    Nicely built P4 board which uses SDRAM - worth preserving

    Spoiled by Lelon RXA caps - 2 of 2200uf 16v and 1 of 1500uf 6.3v

    Other caps are Panasonic FJ 2200uf 6.3v and Chemicon (?) TMZ 1000uf 6.3v

    Talk about spoiling a nice board by scrimping a few cents

      Lelon replaced by same spec Sanyo (tested on ESR meter) from donor boards - all working well

      One of the big Lelon propped upside down in the pic to show its split bung

          Yes, epic thread revival, I know.

          Anyways, this seems like a decent old board. Are those Sanyo caps next to the 4-pic CPU connector legit, though? Their vent suggests fake Sanyo. Also, there is a free spot next to them. Should have inserted another cap there for extra filtering.

              ^ 12.5mm and larger diameter Sanyo (Suncon) capacitors have always used the overlapping X in lieu of the typical K vent stamp. Now, if it was a regular + vent stamp, they'd be fake. The replacements look to be the WX series, which is certainly worlds better than the very horrible Lelon RXA series.

                      that manufacturer seems to have absolutely no clue where exactly the right places are to scrimp on caps...

                          First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

                          I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

                          I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                          I did it again – I had to fulfill my inner desire to fix yet another old piece of hardware. This one is actually kind of worthwhile, too – it’s an EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GS AGP video card, model P/N: 256-A8-N542-T2. With the popularity of “retro” PCs from the Win9x to XP era going up, and the diminishing supply of decent AGP cards, it is expected their prices will go up. Or is it? I bought the this video card rather on the cheap side (~$9 USD shipped to my door), because the eBay seller listed it for parts or repair (and correctly noted the bad capacitors.)

                          Hi everyone,

                          There actually was a time when early SMPS and late bakelite housed electrolytic caps coexisted in high end industrial gear. A friend of mine just got himself a CNC milling machine form that time with its first set of now 41 year old caps still installed in the PSU... and it's malfunctioning.

                          Two of the caps have already leaked slightly onto the board. I have not desoldered or measured any so far but they should qualify for replacement.

                          Now I'm wondering what to put in there as a replacement. First idea was state of the art low-ESR Nippon KY,...

                          I'm probably going to ask a very noob question but after many readings and videos I'm still unsure on the answer.

                          I've broken one of the caps around the gpu of an xbox 360 by overheating it. In the forum I've found this thread where the user had exactly my situation (same console version and same broken caps): https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24983

                          I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated.
