Dang it! I opened the case of my wife's old Dell GX 180 to clean it out, and upgrade the video card yesterday. I forgot that I had used a non-Dell short IDE ribbon cable to connect the DVD drives. My mind saw that the cable was being pulled tight and that I was busting something but my hand kept opening the case anyway. "Bad Hands!" The cable cracked the plastic, and bent the pins on the mobo Primary IDE socket. Since the socket comes off the board and turns a 90 I had to take the tray out to attempt to straighten the pins. I got it good enough so that the cable would plug in it again, and none of the 40 pins are bent over. Well the black plastic clamp that holds the ribbon wire in connection with the ribbon's plug also busted. I reused the wire because I didn't feel like looking in my junk boxes for another cable. The cable is now bad and the drives give errors on the read. Now I have to take her desk apart again just to get the PC out to replace this stupid cable. Dang it! I think I will dust and clean mine today and see what I can bust in it! I bet its a bitch to replace one of these IDE conectors too.

Screwed up IDE/PATA Mobo Socket

Would love to give you pics but the wife busted the digital carmera a while back. Her web cam isn't hooked up right now and I just don't want to mess with that old nest of snakes right now."It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."

Schematic shows there is invpwr_b+ where the short is (pin 1+2) but I test there is ground on motherboard, you can see copper on photos. How can I repair this short, where should I connect 40pin edp cables pin 1+2 on motherboard without change socket?...05-17-2022, 05:32 AM

by Med-TechHello,
I bought a MoBo from Ebay as working, when it arrived I set it up and guess what? That is right, it did not work! In fact it killed the CPU 😡 I have checked the pins on the socket, but I cannot identify any broken, missing or misaligned pins. Attached are a few photos of the socket. It would be great, if you could look them over to see, if there maybe is something I have missed and let me know.
Other than the socket, what other things could be killing the CPU? PSU is working fine, tested all cable values, checks okay. I decided to buy a few compatible, but cheap...5 Photos -
by DynaxSCHi,
I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.
Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.
The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:- The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
- POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket

by Isabella91I have seen many posts where the eMMC can be read via a SD card reader, however can the opposite be achieved?
Read/Write a Micro SD Card from an eMMC Socket.
I have a Motherboard with a Kingston BGA153 ball socket, using HS400 bus mode, which is 8bit, as Micro SD is usually 1bit or 4bit mode, I accept that a loss of speed in read/write will occur, but I would sill like to convert.
Theoretically speaking, Im thinking if I hard solder DAT0-3 from eMMC to SD Card Reader, this should force 4-bit mode, or only DAT0 to force 1-bit mode.
