    motherboard connector broken

    Hello,
My friend broke the DC jack on his laptop. Since I have successfully repaired a few notebooks with this problem by soldering a new jack to the notebook. he asked me to repair the PC. Everything was going fine until I had to remove the heat sink fan power cord from the Motherboard when I attempted to pull it out, the connecter broke right off the Motherboard. (The white piece I have circled)

Does anyone know if it is possible to resolder the connector to the MB, and if it is possible. How can to do it?
    Thanks

is the metal pins still on the mainboard?

    Cheers, Wizard

That is a very good question wizard.

If the metal pins are still attached, then simply gently push the plastic back over the pins and all will be good.

If the metal pins are ripped out as well, hopefully all you would need to do is clean up the holes and resolder it in.

Unfortunately the metal pins were ripped out as well.
I don't know how to resolder the connector? The pins are so close togather it does not look possible by hand.

If you snapped them off you just have to push out the remnants and put a new connector in. If you have the SMD type, which is not in the pic, then you will need a hot air gun and patience to not melt the plastic. Of course if you ripped up the traces completely, you are SOL.

There is nothing to snap in.

I do not understand what a SMD type is?

The previous pic is not the actual connector, but is almost identical except that the broken has 3 pins instead of 2.

This is what the bottom of the broken connector looks like. The part that was connected to the MB

It looks exactly the same on the MB.
The three dots are the actual silver color pins and send the power to the fan, and the squares, which are a copper color are just to hold the connector to the MB (I assume but not sure), it obviously was not very strong since I was very gentile and it still came off.
