    Dell network driver

I'm setting up my old Dimension 4100 with an Intergraph Wildcat 4000 video card and a brand new install of Windows 2000 however I'm having driver issues with the internal networking.
I know it works (under Linux) but under 2000 it is not automatically detected so I went to the Dell website and low and behold, there is no driver there either and this system should be fully supported under Windows 2000 Professional.

I ran a quick google and I found nothing valid and I'm about to turn in for the night. Can anyone help me? I can't finish setting the system up until I got it networked.

That's the thing. I have no idea.
The download page did have a utility for Intel network cards (but of course, no driver).

If you want you can go check yourself. the Service Tag is 8WNY801.

You don't have Sandra to find system info or some similar program?

Try this one. Nice and it runs from a flash drive.

That was an awesome piece of software.
Okay, so now I know that I have the intel 82801BA LAN controller and so I went to the intel site and hopefully downloaded the correct driver but of course there is another snag so screw it, I'll drop in a 3Com PCI card, run Windows update and try again.

For some odd reason, it requires me to have this one specific service running (I forget which one it was) so I'll run Windows update and try again, hoping that the required service is running by then.

EDIT: and I was right. After I updated the system the driver installed no problem.

Ok. So Google the service and see what it needs to be running. There may be another service that turns it on or off or it may be initiated once you install the correct driver and reboot.

It's not a problem anymore. It was not working before I ran Windows update but after I installed the initial 76 updates I tried again and it installed the driver no problem.
