    Linux Terminal Server Question

Yeah I'm still working on this.

I have a dual Xeon board that takes up to Quad cores.
I intend to use Centos 64-bit.

    Is it possible to:
    - Dedicate cores to specific terminals.
    - From a terminal, select specific core for specific tasks.
    - From a terminal, open a virtual machine and select a specific core.

I'll be starting out with a single dual core probably but I do have the parts to go to a pair of dual cores.

I see no point in multiple cores if most will be idle most of the time anyway. But if I can specify which cores do what that's another story.

What I'm trying to figure out is what I want to do in so far as an upgrade path. Once I know I can keep my eyes open for good deals on the CPUs I'll need for it.

    Thanks in advance.

        Dedicate cores to specific terminals.
-Terminals in a vm? Isn't a terminal just a shell with a user?

From a terminal, select specific core for specific tasks.
        - Set affinity maybe for processes, scripts, etc.

From a terminal, open a virtual machine and select a specific
        core.
        - You can probably run a vm on its own core.

Last I was aware, Linux doesn't support CPU affinity for particular processes. But that may have changed.

I guess it didn't when SMP wasn't so popular. Now its like 40 cores to a chip

                  That's helping.
It's so much easier when someone knows the terms (words) I need to learn about.

                  Thanks guys.

Just looked it up on google, apparently they added affinity with the 2.5 kernel.
I think 2.5 was a development series, but I guess it should be in 2.6 then.

Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
                      by omega
                      Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...

When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.

I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?
