    It very well could be. I know I had an LG (HP badged) BD-Rom give me a bunch of bull pucky like that... it refused to be seen by the BIOS on a particular system (Tyan S2895 K8WE) but would work fine when hot-plugged. The fix was to force-flash the updated firmware (as being an HP re-badge, it wouldn't take LG's firmware).

    You'd think otherwise, but all it takes is a minor incompatibility to screw everything up.

      Fzabkar helped me fix it when he said the PID & VID were associated with the SATA controller, not the device. That made me check the drivers for the SATA controller and notice that it was using generic drivers. The problem was AMD's Chipset setup program doesn't appear to auto-detect the SATA controller. The fix was to go into Device Manager and manually point it to where the AMD drivers got extracted to ( C:\AMD ) and then have it check for new drivers. This fixed the problem. Blu-Ray drive works now!
