    Fibre Optic Connections

I am new to fibre optic cables and fibre optic networks in general. I have come along a snag. I do not know anything about the multiple core fibre optic cables.

What is the real difference between say a 4 core Multi-Mode fibre optic cable and a 6 core Multi-Mode fibre optic cable?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of multiple core fibre optic cables?

This has really stumped me and I can not find the answer anywhere! I have been searching for a little while now and absolutely nothing came up that would help me out.

Thanks in advance to all those that reply!

MacBook Pro late 2016 (820-00239) with multiple failure modes.
      by npielawski
I will just preface all this by saying that I have a fairly technical background but have never attempted SMD electronics diagnostics and repair before, I really like the idea and want to learn.

I have a MacBook Pro late 2016 that died maybe four years ago. Over the course of 30 seconds, it got slower and stuttered, until it froze for a second and died. No click from the trackpad anymore, nothing. I started getting interested in electronics repair and decided to give it a shot, so I opened it, removed the battery (one cell was puffy), took out the motherboard and experimented with...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

      No power - ramping voltage on multiple components - HP ENVY X360 13-ar, MB:G1 13 AMD X360 18740-1 448.0GA03.0011

Need help identify problem component or next steps to test.

The motherboard isn't working there is no power indicator light and overall no power on.
However, I have identified multiple 19v, 14, 11v, 10v and 5v points across the board but nothing that goes below 5v.

No I have reached a part of the board where I think there is a problem.
Multiple components (buck converters?) that are ramping up voltage. I have marked all the details in the picture, the problem is at the pink components - they are ramping up over of a few minutes from 0v to 4v and beyond....

Sharp Aquos LC-70C6400U Half Screen Dark
      by scubacamper
I found another post on this site the other day which has been very helpful in troubleshooting this issue I am having with my tv. The left half of the screen is dark, and the other half is VERY slow to generate it's image - and it only generates part of its image at that.
Based on this yt video, I have narrowed it down to an issue (short?) on the left side of the display, somewhere in the system of ribbon cables.
when I remove the bezel and the rear cover, I can get the image to display correctly by manipulating the ribbon cables on the left side which connects the left lower display...

      AOC AG493UCX 49-inch monitor - Firmware request
      by wattage
      Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...
