Loose cable or poor contact at the motherboard end.
Bad cable.
Bad power to the drive interface controller chip.
Scratched, broken, or shorted solder trace between the controller and the drive connector.Mann-Made Global Warming.

by TopcatWell this one didn't last long....
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=872
We had some severe weather pass though late fall and it got jolted.....got through multiple surge protection devices and got the NIC. I stuck a PCIe NIC in it....but it just hasn't acted right since......but I've been limping it along. I decided it's time to start working up a replacement.
First up is the case.....this came from the shop I cleaned out last October. This is an Enlight built server case OEM'd for Intel....and rebadged by Nobilis.

by eccerr0rAny opinions on how many bios implementations will boot UEFI system partitions that are on MBR disks?
I'm beginning to find perhaps that there indeed are UEFI firmware implementations that won't boot off of MBR disks that have an ESP (flagged with 0xEF). Some do and some don't, some will definitely boot off of removable media with MBR and 0xEF ESP but not hard drives...
Is there a rule that GPT partitioning is required for hard disks to boot? Seems that CDROM (El Torito) and removable USB media do not need to be GPT, and MBR is fine?-

by YousufHi All,
I am trying to fix my friend's all-in-one HP pavillion 23 Touchsmart AIO PC. This is an all-in-one desktop-style PC with a touch screen and no keyboard. The power supply is a laptop power supply like brick (19v, 7A) . The motherboard looks exactly like this one, https://www.empowerlaptop.com/p/hp-7...erboard-w1711/
The model number indicated on the motherboard is as follows:
708236-001
721377-501
721377-601
I would greatly appreciate if someone can find the schematic for me. I did some search but nothing, except for...-

by TopcatSomeone dumped this off on me yesterday; said it's been in their basement over 20yrs and wanted it gone (along with a few other older PC's, but this one was the true relic). The fella said it stopped booting back in the late 90's, and it's been in the basement since.
Two issues I found that were booting killers for it; the Dallas RTC is bad (won't hold BIOS settings, but will keep the time/date...go figure) and the 1.2gb Quantum Fireball (furball) is bad (spins up, seems ok....and then out of the blue will spin down). The floppy is flaky (struggling to read; even after cleaning),...-
