    XpertVision 6800GS no display

Yes, I do have its power socket attached to the power supply

When it's the only graphics card, the motherboard will power up, give single POST OK beep, then who knows what afterwards because there's no display

If I plug in a PCI card, NVFLASH can detect the 6800GS

Or I can boot into XP, which detects a new device and asks about a driver

Given 307.83-desktop-winxp-32bit-international-whql, it digests the driver then asks to reboot

    XP then freezes during startup

Older versions of the driver produce the same outcome

Trying Linux from Hiren's Boot CD gives "Kernel panic - not syncing : machine check from unknown source"

I've tried some different BIOSes from the Net, including one from Palit which is supposed to be XpertVision's parent

    All produced the same outcome

I'm at a loss what to try next - is it a software or hardware problem ?

If anyone has one of these boards, working, I'd appreciate a copy of its BIOS - with MVKTECH.NET defunct, BIOS options are limited

        Bumpgate...
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

it's not the bios, Linux can run a card without one!

            start checking voltages.
the eeprom works or you wouldnt have a pci id.
check the ram supply and any other supply's you can spot.

Or Chemi-con KZGs that silently failed. I think I see several KZGs on that card.

As I subtly suggested earlier, it's probably the GPU. It is affected by the bumpgate defect.

EDIT: Yes, the caps are a possibility too

need to get the cooler off.
a lot of AGP cards from NV have an AGP interface ic as well as the gpu (that i assume is pci-e)

                    Re: XpertVision 6800GS no display

Also, check both VGA and DVI ports for output. I had this issue with bad 7600 GT video cards (due to bad Sacon FZ caps) not output anything on VGA, but did output garbage on DVI.

Although, I, too am inclined to think this is a bumpgate issue like c_hegge. In particular, the 6800 GPUs run quite hot. At least my XFX 6800 Xtreme was running close to 60C with stock cooler - and anything above 60C is huge danger zone for the 6, 7, and 8 series cards.

And of course, those KZG are no good either.
