    Thumbs.db didn't migrate. Server problems.

    Oh, son of a...

So I'm still getting the hang of this new file server. You dump files to a hard drive and after a few days it saves it to tape, leaving just the headers and anything you specify in the exclusion rules. I set it to exclude thumbs.db because my image library has over 3000 files with no real naming scheme but it seems the database did not migrate.

Nothing has a thumbnail anymore and because it's archived to tape it does not automatically generate a new thumbs.db What is the best way to transfer over my old thumbs.db files or better yet, force it to regenerate new ones? I don't have the time to open each file one at a time and that will completely wear the library and the tape drives out.

The other problem while looking into the thumbnail issue was that I can't seem to force Remote Storage Manager to store everything. Stuff smaller than 2kb is excluded from the archive.

How big is the 3000+ image library ? Why are you using tape ?

It's 3280 images. I'm using tape because it's scaleable as hell. I only need a 50gb redundant RAID and one library amounting to 24tb of remote storage to effectively store everything I ever do on a computer.

Anyways, I ended up using a bug in Preview, switching off the recall run away limit and manually regenerating Thumbs.db. I also set an archival exclusion for the file so that it doesn't just go and archive it as well.

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
        by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
        by omega
        Hello all,
as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.

Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...

LG 75UN8570AUD panel issue fixed with tape.
        by triplefour
I've been seeing a lot of the new TVs (samsung and LG only i think) maybe 1-2 years old suffering from sudden panel death and have been over 50% successful bringing them at least most of the way back to functionality if not all the way, with the tape masking of the LVDS pins method.
add this one to the list. the issue was on the left side of the panel and i ended up blocking just 3 pins on the connector that joins the two panel boards that make up the left side of the panel (it has 4 boards total) i didnt get the picture back to 100% perfect. i spent hours fiddling with which pins to block...
