    HP Vectra VL420 mainboard

    Hello everyone,

I have to ask this question before I buy a HP Vectra VL420 barebone system.

I have an Intel Celeron 2.00GHz Socket 478 CPU and I want to put it into that system if I do actually buy it.

The only reason I want to buy it is because I have SDRAM and i'm not willing to spend extra on DDR RAM. And also, the PC partner board that my Celeron is currently in, doesn't look too good after the last recap, it works but the board looks like crap. Theres oversized caps everywhere and the PCB paint has come off in the some sections where I soldered.

The system is a small form factor PC and it uses a slimline optical drive so I'm guessing it will be very packed up in there.

I think the motherboard is an Asus P4B-MX, I searched for the Vectra VL420 motherboard on ebay and thats what it came up with.

I went to the HP website and had a look for the service manual and it only supports Pentium 4 1.6, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0GHz socket 478 Processors. Theres nothing about Celeron CPUs. If I do buy it is there any possibility I can make this board work with a Celeron????

I tried the Asus site and searched up the P4B-MX and it supports the Celeron processor but I wonder if I could put the Asus BIOS onto the HP board.... since the HP board has no gameport and a few extra connectors????.

    Thanks.

    Re: HP Vectra VL420 mainboard

Caught out by the 10 minuite edit rule again.

The board also has some DIP switches on it, I wonder if those DIP switches need to be adjusted to handle a different processor???? I read the Asus P4B-MX online manual and Asus says that the switches have to be adjusted, but í am not sure if they are the same configuration or not.... or if HP decided to have a different DIP configuration from Asus.

If only my Trigem Imperial GL_VE motherboard didn't have a damaged trace and also an AGP port, I wouldn't have to buy a new board....

    Thanks.
