    LGA771 socket fix

I got a server with 32GB RAM and dual Xeon 5060 CPUs. However while it works fine with a single CPU in, both causes it not to POST.
What is the best way to fix it? Thanks.

Edit: unrelated, but what are some better CPUs for this socket?

Ok since two pins are entirely broken off, can somebody help me find a pinmap? thanks

      Re: LGA771 socket fix

Basically any processor datasheet from intel will have the pinout, for example this one for QX9775 :

        Re: LGA771 socket fix

Thank you, I didn't think of it that way... but I can't figure out which way is which!
Please let me know if i can simply bridge these to ones next to it or something. thanks

Edit: orange circled are broken off. I indicated with an orange line how many in it is on each side. ironically, the damage is symmetrical.
I marked the numbs where the cpu notches line up, just to make it obvious which way is which.
        thanks.

Edit2: would be super grateful to whoever could help me figure out what to do. Would love to see this thing work with two CPUs... otherwise 32GB RAM is wasted on a dual core cpu (well, single dual core + ht = quad thread) but 8 threads (two of those CPUs) would have made this a sick score for $50)...

          Re: LGA771 socket fix

Very unlikely you'll be able to "bridge" them. If that was the case, the processor would have ran already.

There are a lot of pins that are for redundancy at power delivery and other things but you can't just go and bridge pins.

Otherwise, I really don't know how the numbering works. I'd suggest looking on digikey or findchips.com for lga771 sockets then check the datasheets to see if it's not the socket by design made that way without the pins ... or check google images for a large mb picture of a lga771 based motherboard

            Re: LGA771 socket fix

It doesn't work with both CPUs in. It works fine with either CPUs in socket 1 so I know both the CPUs are good.

              Re: LGA771 socket fix

hmm the datasheets from intel for your xeon 5060 are here.

the land diagram for the cpu socket is on page 40 of the datasheet. btw in a pinout diagram, a land diagram refers to the pins on the motherboard. so figure 3-7 refers to the pins on the board. while figure 3-8 refers to the pin pads on the cpu.

to find the right pin coordinates, just rotate figure 3-7 90 degrees counterclockwise. since u say the fourth pins on both sides are broken, so u have pins D4 and AK4 broken.

pin D4 appears to be a common clk hit# i/o pin on page 56, while pin AK4 is the vid4 pin on page 54.

im not sure if pin D4 is essential or not but pin AK4 IS essential. it basically identifies the cpu's vcore voltage to the motherboard. without that pin, the board wont read the cpu's required voltage correctly, supplying the wrong voltage and causing the cpu not to boot due to too little voltage, which i think is whats happening and causing ur boot failure woes.

also, it seems that pin D4 is a unique pin. that only 1 pin on the cpu does the common clk hit# i/o so bridging to a nearby pin is not possible. it looks like u are crap out of luck. the only way to make the board work with dual cpus is to find a way to mend the pins. try soldering a tiny copper wire to the broken off pins or sumthing but dunno if it might sag and cause a short later on. u go find out the best way! lol~

also, to find out the best cpu for your board, u have to google the cpu support list for your board. u cant just shove any lga 771 cpu in. ur current cpu appears to use a 1066fsb. while for example, the qx9775 uses a 1600fsb. the northbridge may not be able to handle cpus with a 1600fsb so beware... maybe try to find out what northbridge ur board has and tell us by posting it here?

Well, I'm just parting it out on eBay... Gave up on this piece of crap. Thanks to everyone who advised, though.

Possible to convert eMMC Socket to a micro SD Card socket?
                  by Isabella91
I have seen many posts where the eMMC can be read via a SD card reader, however can the opposite be achieved?

Read/Write a Micro SD Card from an eMMC Socket.

I have a Motherboard with a Kingston BGA153 ball socket, using HS400 bus mode, which is 8bit, as Micro SD is usually 1bit or 4bit mode, I accept that a loss of speed in read/write will occur, but I would sill like to convert.

Theoretically speaking, Im thinking if I hard solder DAT0-3 from eMMC to SD Card Reader, this should force 4-bit mode, or only DAT0 to force 1-bit mode.

                  Not to remove...

Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket not working.
                  by warsztat
Hello, Acer AN515-57-577G JDIMM1 socket does not work. GH51G LA-L181P, 2x DDR4 RAM, both good, both work well in JDIMM2, neither works in JDIMM1. The laptop displays BIOS, when the JDIMM2 socket is occupied, you can run Linux on USB, then everything seems to work ok, there is internet access and you can browse the contents of the 512 GB SSD in Windows, but starting Windows ends with an eternal spinning circle, maybe there are corrupted files. When the RAM is inserted into the JDIMM1 socket, the laptop starts but there is no image and the downloaded current does not change and the output is ~2.25A....
