    dell optiplex 960 motherboard not powering on

    i have received two optiplex 960 pcs.so both have the same power problem.when plug in they have only orange led lights up and when i press power then the led blinks vary lightly.i have also noticed that the south chip is heating.so have some body any solutions

    May Ask The Question Firtrst what Type of Heat so Very heat? or Normal heat. well i encounter same Problem if the unit are has been no display i Try to Chage the Back up battery. Coin type crc Battery I mean....

      it means that in normal condition it is not heated like this heat and also it does not starts.no fan spins and no led from front panel turns on

          i already read this but it only says that it is a ps fault or a bad mobo.i know that the problem is in mobo but from where i start checking components and what should i change

            Check all voltage rails on power supply and motherboard:
            Power supply: 5VSB, 3.3V, 5V, 12V, -12V
            Motherboard: CPU Vcore (CPU voltage), Northbridge voltage (if motherboard has one), RAM main voltage, RAM Vtt, any and all linear regulators (i.e. anything with 1117, 1084, 7805 written on it - these are just the most common ones. There are a lot more).
