    Weird Bios issue: Supermicro X5DAL-TG2

Question: I've had a Supermicro X5DAL-TG2 for a while but there is a peculiar issue it's been having.

Every time I kill power to the mainboard, all the Bios settings are restored to defaults. The time doesn't stop or get reset, so I don't think it's the Cmos Battery (I checked it anyway, its good).

Its a pita for a couple reasons. First, every time it happens it re-scans all 2gb of RAM. This is a very slow process to say the least. In addition, there are some stupid defaults, like hyperthreading being turned off. I also expand the AGP aperture and manually define my IDE opticals (otherwise it takes a long time to POST).

Is there a known fix for that or should I just get used to reconfiguring my bios a lot

I'd first check to see if there's an update on SM's site. If its the latest (and if its my old board it probably is), then replace the CMOS batt....even if it checks good on a VOM, change it anyway. If the problem still persists, I really don't know. Never had a SM do that. Had a Tyan do that to me once, and never did figure that one out. I'm assuming you've already done a full CMOS dump and reset on the board.

Only right way to test a battery out is by putting load on it. Give swapping it out a try anyways.

Agreed. Seen that fool more than a few...thats why I said change it anyway. That board is circa 2003 or so, with the original batt....it is 8+ years old...

I think I swapped it when I first got it. Not sure if I used a new one though.

But if the batt was bad, why would the bios clock still work without power? The system was offline and not plugged in for a month or so and upon powering it back up, the reported time was still accurate.

Topcat's Supermicro X10DAI Build - Plus NVMe BIOS Mod Inside
              by Topcat
Yes, I know I don't post this stuff much anymore....the only reason I'm posting this one is because of a NVMe adapter incompatibility; seems rather planned by Supermicro.....or I'm atleast a bit suspicious. It's plenty new enough to have a UEFI bios but a short 'happy list' of NVMe controllers that will work with this board, as if by some 'miracle', all Intel....so lets start at the beginning; we'll get back to this later.

Of course the motherboard is as the thread title states; X10dai....but we'lre going to have some fun shoehorning this into a modern 'gamer case' that can actually...

Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100 - BIOS Issue, Black Screen
              by wizard13
              Hello everyone,

I am experiencing a BIOS-related issue with my Dynabook Satellite Pro C50D-B-100. When I power on the laptop, the screen stays black, and there is no response from the system. I suspect a corrupted BIOS.

I have checked the forum and the available documentation but could not find a solution specific to my issue.

              Issue wtih [crisis] BIOS recovery
              by SGVsbG8sIHdvcmxkIQ
              Hi,

BIOS update bricked my laptop - after restart the was a prompt to Proceed with ROM flash or Abort. None of 2 options worked - upon restart the same prompt shown.

I downloaded [BIOS update].exe file from Lenovo Support > extracted [firmware descriptor].fd file > renamed it to [correct crisis file name].bin.

With crisis file on USB drive the Proceed with ROM option launches recovery - after displaying the current and the new BIOS version, the process terminated immediately with validation error:

Not allow flash. Boot Guard version verification...

              ASUS TP500LA BIOS request/repair/merge?
              by jbonavita
Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
              Some issues
              A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

              Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...
