Career future for Computer Science Graduate?

I'm just wonder what's the job prospect for people majoring in Computer Science.
Other than writing code, what kind of computer job can a graduate find?

I my humble opinion, avoid code monkey jobs, as most is outsourced, and there's not a bright future for it unless you have a LOT of experience or some extremely notable projects on your resume. Sadly, I've got a lot of hungry friends that are good programmers. Stay in the hardware field (networking or IT areas), when a server breaks, they can't outsource that, they need a tech on-hand. A fresh out of school general computer science grad will have a hard time finding a PC repair job at some mom and pop computer shop. I would pick a more specialized field and go back to school, you'll have a far better chance.

If you're not in the US, I really dont know......

you did not indicate whether you are deciding on your college degree or are currently in a programme. college degrees look very good on CVs and unless the job specifically requires a foundation in some subject (think mathematics, engineering, chemistry, electronics etc. i dont think it matters so much what you study as long as you complete the degree to a high class. if you ever wanted to move up the ladder inside a big company not having a degree might hold you back.

the thing is that someone can have a degree and even relevant certs but not know the skills required to get them through the door. i have seen on several threads people saying when they were hiring for admin or support positions they would give the applicant a really busted server and tell them to fix it.

if you want to do networking certs then choose something and do it to a high level. whether microsoft, cisco or redhat. but choose something you are interested and will do further in your spare time. i would say good linux admins would be in more demand because it is much more difficult than msft. but then again if you dont like linux then dont do that. anyway whatever you choose if you are not running your own development servers and networking equipment in your house then you probably wont be a very good admin.
