Desktop cases today are small enough that they aren't really creating a space issue, they're about the size of the stand footprint of a larger LCD monitor....and with all the wireless perifs now, they can't even be blamed for creating wire mess or clutter... Ohh well....I'll get off my desktop case soapbox.
I have an Optiplex 960 at work as my primary machine... desktop works well there since I have a corner desk and the front of the case doesn't extend into my working area. I can still put a full 8.5x11 notepad in front of it, and it's great as a monitor stand. On my desk at home, though? No chance.

After it became common knowledge that you could run a desktop computer on its side, I found a lot of people putting them on the floor anyway. They wanted their desk space back!
    Ludicrous gibs!

^ That's why mine is sitting on an old bigtower with nothing in it next to my desk. Right about in arm-height.
Thought about making a little NAS box out of it, but then I'd have the same problem with it that I'm trying to prevent with my main computer.. so that's kinda pointless lol

I don't find it all that difficult to take the air compressor to my PC once a month...

When I replaced the hard drive and PSU in my bedside PC I would A LOT of dust in there! Mostly in the PSU but also just everywhere.... there's still a bunch on the intake vent and the case fan but I didn't want to clean everything out...
Then again it's on the floor right next to my bed so it's in the perfect location to get really dusty And the main intake vents are at the bottom of the front and in the side...

I would've loved to snatch 2 of those 1 GHz Pentium 3 CPUs to use in my Netserver E800 dual P3 board. AFAIK, that's the max it can take (not counting Tualatin-based P3's with Lin-Lin adapters). Would have made a kick-ass server or even everyday computer.

                Good to hear.
Should you ever decide to get rid of it, just know there's a big line of people here willing to take it off your hands .
But I still advise you don't.

For all you who are mourning the loss of the P-III machines, here's why they were no longer welcome here:

Optiplex 745's. Pentium D 3.0ghz dual core. Most have a single 1gb stick of DDR2, and they all have 80gb WD SATA drives. The CDROMs are destroyed (thanks, immature kids!), but they POST. Haven't started the full hardware testing yet...
