I washed the back of my my motherboard with running water, now it won't switch. I had the cmos bottery on. Is there any hope for my mobo? Did I just kill it?
Is my motherboard dead?

Re: Is my motherboard dead?
Not looking good. Read this thread for details on washing motherboards. At minimum, you'll need to blow out any trapped water from under ICs and let it dry for awhile (a few days?). -
Re: Is my motherboard dead?
How long did you let it dry out for before trying it? Are you sure water didn't get on the other side too? Did you check the power switch? The connection on the board is correct? Is the PSU power on? Is the PSU in working condition? Is it plugged into the wall? So many variables.. I really hope that stupid little CMOS battery didn't really kill it and it's some other reason..
Personally, I've dropped an mp3 player in a pool of oily water while it was turned on and it worked again in less than 24 hours.
My parents dropped their digital camera in shallow ocean waters while it was turned on and it survived too after a rinse and dry. Though now the LCD only displays things in monochrome green.
I know only know one person that wasn't so lucky. They spilled coffee on a laptop while turned on and some traces shorted. That person kept trying to turn it on before it was washed and dried so that might have caused it.Last edited by Deft; 10-19-2010, 09:29 PM.Comment

Re: Is my motherboard dead?
The problem has been solved. Thank you all for your suggestions, especially Wrog. I put the motherboard in the sun for a few hours then re-tested. It switched on. I think I had trapped water under IC's or something. Thank you guys for giving me hope.Comment

by stanwebberi've got a pretty rare motherboard that i'm evaluating for repair. it's a biostar m7mia-raid which is the only ddr socket a motherboard ever produced, consumer or industrial, with an isa slot. its 20 years old now and finally gave up the ghost last month. i was saving a dd image of the hdd to a portable usb drive when i found it unresponsive with a black screen and a solid lit hdd led. after forcing it to power down it never posted again. the psu/cpu/case fans will spin and the onboard motherboard power led will light up, but no beeps or error codes even with the cmos reset and ram plus all expansion...

by tk3000My venerable and old laptop (Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 equipped with an i7-4700MQ, circa 2014) and previously a powerful machine during its heyday is no more. Have been using it for many years, but about 3 months ago it went kaputt for no apparent reason (left it on overnight [normally it goes to standby mode after some idle time], and in the morning it was cold dead with no boot, no post, no leds; nothing at all).
Since the 1990s I have been building custom desktop computers, etc; but it has been few years since my last built one and for the last 15 years I have built very few... -
by sam_sam_samI got lucky that when I got home and was about to get some ice out of the ice dispenser I hear and see water running down the outside of the ice dispenser what the heck is going on here
At first I thought that the ice dispenser mold was cracked so I brought a new ice maker because this one has been in there for about 10 years now
Well I put the new one in and wait and I wait for the water valve to open and let water in no such luck well there is a way to check the function of the motor and the water valve on this ice maker just need a jumper wire “L” to... -
by DrvLikHellGreetings and sanitations! Several years ago I received some really awesome help on this forum for fixing my monitor (which is still working) so I figure maybe someone can help with this laptop issue.
I have a Dell E6540, motherboard 9411P, DP/N:VWNW8. A year ago it died a strange death where at first it wouldn't turn on all the time, but would turn on when it felt like it, then it got worse where it wouldn't turn on at all and I would just get a flashing light. So I replaced the motherboard with a matching part number board. (I still have the old motherboard) Now a year later this... -
by ArchimedesSubject is a blank screen issue in HP Envy 17-3290NR 3D version laptop with motherboard Louis V1.1 6050A2489901 MB-A02. Production year is 2012. This one is a 2nd hand motherboard which I could use it for few months only. Suddenly no output from the internal display and also no signal from HDMI port then Windows out of order after few boots.
Caps lock working normally and no HP's caps-lock warning blinks. Making a hard reset and replacing the RAM sticks or using different slots didn't help.
Fans are spinning. Blindly could install windows11 and got the device manager... - Loading...
