Re: most of us in a nutshell
Lemme see... how many old computers do I have that actually work?
- Dell Dimension 2400
- The Athlon 64 system
- The 1993 Gateway 2000 80486 System
- A Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 4
- Some whitebox Athlon XP system
- An IBM PS/2 Model 25
- A whitebox Pentium III/Intel 440 system
- HP Pavilion a1000y
Nonworking old computers:
- IBM PS/2 Model 55SX (Unknown fault, does not POST, needs a new Dallas clock module)
- Dell Optiplex GX1 (PS/2 controller unresponsive)
- Dell Dimension XPS something-or-another Pentium Pro workstation (Acquired for free as scrap in 2019, haven't had a chance to examine it yet and determine what's wrong, needs a CPU at the very minimum)
- And there's probably more of 'em squirreled away somewhere that I've forgotten about.
So that IS a lot of old computers.Last edited by TechGeek; 03-13-2023, 10:37 AM.Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.
My computer doubles as a space heater.
Permanently Retired Systems:
RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.
Kooky and Kool Systems
- 1996 Power Macintosh 7200/120 + PC Compatibility Card - Under Restoration
- 1993 Gateway 2000 80486DX/50 - Fully Operational/WIP
- 2004 Athlon 64 Retro Gaming System - Indefinitely Parked
- Main Workstation - Fully operational!

Re: most of us in a nutshell
Haha, I love it!
Yeah, I did a quick count of how many "personal" desktop PCs I have (well, I consider all of my PCs as personal / non-sell-able / hobby / junk... because most of them are), as a preparation for my move, to calculate the rough volumetric space they'd take in the shipping can. I forgot the exact count already (LOL)... but it came out to a little over 50-ish desktops(ATX, mATX, and one or two SFFs). And if I was to find more cases to use up the stash of working/fixed old motherboards, I'd probably add another 10-20 to that count. Yeah
... that's a lot of old computers.
I also have a lot of old / junky PSUs... though not as many as this:

I will not take an inventory. That would force me to admit that I have a problem!!<--- Badcaps.net Founder

The bq24745 bq24745RHDR bq24745RHDT is a high-efficiency, synchronous battery charger with an integrated input-current comparator, offering low component count for space-constrained, multi-chemistry battery-charging applications. The input-current, charge-current, and charge-voltage DACs allow very high regulation accuracies that can be easily programmed by the system power-management microcontroller using the SMBus interface. The bq24745 charges two, three, or four series Li+ cells, and is available in a 28-pin, 5-mm x 5 mm QFN package.
The bq24745 features dynamic power management...-

Howdy folks,
I've risen from the grave to ask more questions about old obsolete Dells.
I've acquired a Dell Dimension 4550 which is in need of a PSU - I've several PSUs from Dell Dimension B110s, and I'm wondering if one of them could be used. The PSUs and the 4550 use a 20-pin connector and a 4-pin connector.
The issue is, I've been told that Dell really likes using proprietary hardware, and there were concerns about damage being caused by an incompatible supply. Because of this I'm assuming it's not just a simple plug-and-play and that there's more... -

The NB670 NB670GQ is a fully integrated high frequency synchronous rectified step-down switch mode converter with 3.3V fixed output voltage. It offers very compact solution to achieve 6A continuous output current and 9A peak output current over a wide input supply range with excellent load and line regulation. The NB670 operates at high efficiency over a wide output current load range. Constant-On-Time (COT) control mode provides fast transient response and eases loop stabilization.
Under voltage lockout is internally set as 4.65V. An open drain power good signal indicates the output...-
