Ltec Caps? From a Netgear Gigabit switch.

Ok, I have a Netgear Gigabit switch that died a few years ago. Decided to get it working again, and one of the caps that died was a 1000uF 10v cap. Ltec? Green with Gold lettering and negative mark. Dunno if the caps are actually bad ones, or if sitting next to the heatsink caused it to pop. Marked 105C Temp (M) YB105. Anybody seen these?

Already ordered my replacement caps, just couldn't find anything on these caps. Will post pics once my main system is running again.

The logo for the LTEC looks a lot like the Lelon logo. Oval "ford"ish logo with cursive letters. Same company?

LTEC are bad caps. They sometimes do OK in PSUs, but are bad everywhere else.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Thanks, the other caps are Taicon's, but I want to replace the bad one first, see if that fixes the issue, and then replace the rest.

Ltec and Taicon are both taiwanese and both about the same grade as teapo.

That is adequately cooled they can do ok for a little while in power supplies, very popular in deltas.

          Otherwise change them out.

            3COM OfficeConnect Gigabit Switch 16 (3C1671600)

The switch has served me for 10+ years (was new when I bought it). It's a nice switch with connections on the back which makes for quite a clean desk. Reason for taking it apart was that the cooling fan was noisy so I expected it to be dirty/dusty inside and the need to order a new fan. What I found was that it was very dirty/dusty and some electrolytic capacitors which needs attention. There are 3 capacitors which needs to be replaced but the ESR on some of the other ones might be bad as well so I think I'll replace them all. Original...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
            by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

            Netgear JGS516PE Switch Fan Replacement
            by shovenose
I got a free Netgear JGS516PE PoE switch and it works fine but the fan makes a grinding sound.

It uses a 12V 3 pin fan with a non standard pin out. So I took a Noctua fan and moved the wires around in the connector to make it work.

Unfortunately, the fan spins for just a couple seconds before it turns off and the Fan Fault LED comes on.

I think it's stupid they designed it to stop powering the fan when it detects a fault but I guess that's what they chose to do.

Instead of spending $30 on the correct replacement fan, does anyone have a clean...

            Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
            by eryjus
            Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
