    Identify Capacitor

Please help me find a data sheet for this so I can replace it.

Trec NP?? not sure if NP is for non-polarized or for the series. NP series seems to be a fiction, so I presume it's some other mysterious series. They are purple.

Any ideas on what series it is??

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Re: Identify Capacitor

NP usually stands for non-polarized and based off of your photos i think those capacitors are non-polarized as i don't see a negative stripe on those capacitors.
From what i can find it they could be trec BR series or trec NR series capacitors.

Thanks Ruky Con for the quick response. I did read it right after you posted, I just remembered I never thanked you. So here it is, a bit late.

No problem at all. I don't mind the late thank you.

Personally, I never come through non-polarized cylindrical capacitors. This schematic might help you.

            Re: Identify Capacitor

Yes that's a non polarized/bipolar electrolytic capacitor. Usually the characteristics of these capacitors are pretty crappy to begin with so likely you can replace with almost any crappy np/bipolar electrolytic capacitor of the same capacitance/voltage.

            Which side is negative?

This was the first cap I saw that marked both sides...

NP CAPS are used a lot in speaker cross over, and also in Class D amplifier output.

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
                by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...
