    RCA L40FHD41YX9 and bad caps

    Hello,

I got a 40" TV here. It's my friend's mother's TV. It doesn't work. I crack open the case and find two bad caps, just by a physical inspection.

Both are 1000uF, 16V but different manufacturers and are on the "cold" side of the board, I do believe (but don't quote me). The first is made by some company called Chang. The second is a blue one made by some company called HEC.

I got a few questions. There's another 1,000uF 16V HEC cap and two 1,000uF 16V Changs left. I have three new Panasonic EEU-FR1C102L (FR Series, 105C) 20% 1,000uF 16V caps lying around in the work room. Should I use them to replace these two bad ones or should I order more and replace all of them?

Here's some pics for people that like pictures.

Gonna need help now. I replaced them, I get a blue light but no picture, no menu when I hit the button, etc. Just black screen. It's like the backlight isn't kicking on.

Have you got 24v going to the inverter ?

From the lines I measured (there's more than one pin showing 24v going to the inverter), I got 24v or around that. To the inverter board at least.

I'm going to pull the other caps on the PSU and just check the ESR real quick. If they check good, I'll probably pull those four caps on the inverter board and check that.

I pulled the other caps on the cold side of the PSU and they all seem to check out. There was a 470 that tested a little low on capacitance (around 394) but from my calculations, that's still within an acceptable range.

The inverter board has me worried a bit. Two of the bulbs aren't connected to the bulb assembly. I got the inverter removed. How do I connect those bulbs? Any help is appreciated. Also, would those two bulbs not being connected prevent the whole screen from turning on? Or just the bottom part of the screen?

EDIT: I got those two bulbs connected again and made sure all the other bulbs were snug. I wonder if those two unhooked ones would have caused this or if there's more going on.

I'm going to go ask in the TV part of the forums now. Thanks!
