    It's happening AGAIN!!!

    You won't believe this, guys.

    Follow this link: http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y

Bad caps on a recent ASUS motherboard, the ASUS P5P.

This is crazy. Don't buy a thing from ASUS.

Here's a pic of the board: [This is NOT my board]

Prolly they are OST not nichicon. They look like OST because the casing folds excessively over the top of the cap which i have seen on the RLZ series of OST. Might be wrong though. The others with the three spoked vents look like united chemi con.

Actually that reference was quite enlightening.

That was found in a hidden FAQ about the Asus K8V Deluxe

Q:I have heard some rumors saying that the appearance of some capacitors on K8V Deluxe may deform soon after use. Is that true? How do I check if my K8V Deluxe is affected, and what should I do next if mine happened to be like that?

A:It has been discovered recently that the nine electrolytic capacitors CE18, CE19, CE20, CE21, CE22, CE25 , CE38, CE39, CE45 (see Figure1, used at power stabilization circuitry) may expand and fracture. This problem has been confirmed to result from quality control of RLZ 0333 capacitors, and proven to happen only on a small number of such capacitors which can be easily distinguished from the RLZ 0333 marking (see Figure 2) on them.
If you need further support after finding RLZ 0333 capacitors at these nine locations, or experiencing symptom as described above on K8V Deluxe motherboards, please kindly contact your place of purchase, supplier, or the nearest ASUS service centre for immediate follow-up.
      ----------------------

if you google for RLZ 0333 you find a whole lot of stuff.

I have seen on a P4C800-E deluxe, OST RLZ 4359 caps which suggests to me that these RLZ 0333 caps might also be OST.

Anyway with that FAQ, who is kidding who? what a load of BS

I'd hazard a guess and say OST.

It seems the "RLZ 0333" capacitor was an OST cap too, you only have to look at OST's site:

        http://www.ost.com.tw [fucking annoying flash intro]

and see that the RLZ series is no longer there.

I can't believe companies like OST get away with this shit.

I'm not very surprised on this, I had some XFXForce 865ALX-PE mainboards, equipped with 3300uF OSTs and 1500uF Jackcons. Most of them are being brought back by the customers because of BSODs - I don't know how many of the boards will have bulging caps, will post some pics.

I must put my hands up and admit to have not been paying ultra-close attention to the bad caps scene, but I thought that this was cleared up by now, and there was just a backlog of older boards.

I find it shocking that even today, manufacturers are equipping their boards with this tat.

You'll find some pics I promised about this XFXForce 865ALX-PE mainboard here: http://virtual.engicomp.hu/~wigyori/xfx_865alx-pe.
Some notes: The Jackcon 1000uF/6.3V are 0207 timecoded, the Elite 3300uF/6.3V are 0224 (as you will see), and the Elite 1500uF/16V (near the parallel port conn. are 0119 (!)
If you need more pics about this, just PM me.
