Or hard disk took a big hit from lousy PSU :-)), which is not uncommon on mobo's powered from +5V rail...
If you're lucky, low level formatting tool from manufacturer can help, run it few times (more than three times), and you will restore disk to original state, if problem was magnetism and not flying mechanism...
Also checking ALL capacitors on +5V rail, is not a bad idea, maybe beefing up capacitance one notch...
Was always puzzled, why are hard disks powered from PSU, and not from motherboard, some nice power connector on motherboard, and cable to hard disk :-))...
