    Measuring capacity, ESR...

    I've got plenty of capacitors I've desoldered from various mobos and PSUs, but I have no idea, how to measure their "condition". There are several RLC meters, but most of them can measure up to 100uf (+-). Is it different to measure electrolyte and any other capacitor? I cant afford any expensive multimeter, so a DIY solution would be great TY for help...

      i just toss em and install new.
      not worth the trouble to reuse.

          Well, this is the second laptop of the exact same model and spec to die on me, the first one lasting a month. Fortunately that was returnable, but apparently the seller lied to me about this one and had even had its warranty registered, so very much out of luck there and can't afford to lose £900..

          I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

          Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

          Hi there!
          Im trying to determine the consumtion rates of a module Im testing. Particularly it's a Decawave DWM1001 module, which is expected to use around nanoamps during normal state so a LiFePo4 battery should last months

          This module has peak spikes of around 100mA once a second, while the TX module is active, and then goes to sleep for the rest of the time (this is when the uA rates are expected)

          But I'm having issues to measure this current.

          1.-Using a multimeter. Obviously all I see is values jumping all the time, as this is not expected...

          I have reverse engineered this tester, schematic is attached and is complete except for capacitor values. These testers annoyingly have no model number but they are the ones you find on the first page of just about any website if you type in "18650 4-channel tester". There is also a 2-channel variant and a newer 8-channel variant. They are very cheap (about £15) and can measure voltage, current, internal resistance and capacity. They have a multicolour display for all these statistics. They also have terminal blocks so that if you want to use a breakout board...

          I'm just creating this thread to document this issue so I don't forget what I've tested so far.

          Technical Manual.

          I've measure CN641 on the power supply board ( board G ) and all the voltages are about half of what they should be. So the 9V pins are measuring about 5V, the 135V pins are measuring about 70V.

          I replaced the two large main caps ( C606 and C607 ) and also C643 and C641 with new capacitors without doing any more troubleshooting and strangely the TV worked for about 30 minutes and then started behaving the same way.

          I can't figure...
