Most of the extremely common brands are well known, but I do see oddball brands I've never heard of pop up all the time. So this forum was established just to list the known bad cap brands. If at all possible, post pics of them as well!
Post the brands of your bad caps.

i will maintain here in the thread "List of Bad Cap Manufacturers" pretty much what the title of the thread says. If you want to update the list then please post in the thread "bad cap manufacturers - please post yours" and i will update the list.
it would be great if you could post actual photographs of the capacitors venting with the name of the offending manufacturer clearly seen. this is in order that we can eventually make a thread which is a photographic list of the bad caps manufacturers and basically undisputed evidence of their bad practices. if you cannot host the image then please send an image no more than 700pixels wide to badcaps@SPAMtechmati.com please remove the SPAM part.
please try to keep discussion off the "bad cap manufacturers - please post yours" thread because it is going to be an endless thread. Make another thread if you want to discuss why lelon is shit or something. of course if you dispute something someone is saying in that thread then we want to know. -
I just solved a tricky problem.
There was an inconsistent problem with the soft power switch on a PC I had (that always makes life interesting).
I eventually isolated the problem to the Power Supply Unit. It was a Morex brand and upon opening it two swollen capacitors were clearly visible - one had started to leak electrolyte.
I have not seen these brands of caps before. They were 2200uF x 10V and labelled "Pce-tur". There was also another brand called Capxcon inside. I was not too worried about repairing the unit so I did not bother taking ESR measurements of the caps inside. I just replaced the two obvious defective "Pce-tur" caps and reassembeld the unit - works fine now
Sorry I can not supply pics at the moment - maybe later.

pce-tur is the brand indeed. but no info on the internet except for a few references to the name. probably made by old lady yang-ming in her garage. anyway added to the list so thanks. glad you fixed the prob, some psu nowadays with big heatsinks and everything glued together is a big problem with access.
cap Xon used in many psu
open a psu = instant disappointment guaranteed, badcaps ahoy!
would like pics though.Comment

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by eryjusHello,
First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

by Paxman_SwedeHello!
I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.
The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.
I have studied the board and...-

by captain150I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...-

by FoetussGood evening
I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?
But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...-
