I've recently purchased an expensive audio line out converter for retaining the factory radio in my car while adding two amplifiers, new speakers, and a sub-woofer. The problem is, with the line out converter (LOC) installed, there is a hissing added to the sound. I believe the LOC is the culprit because adjusting the gains on the amplifier has no effect and adjusting the volume on the factory radio has no effect. Only reducing the LOC's output level effects the hissing sound. This can't be the normal operation of this LOC because I have to reduce its output level to nearly 0 (the knob is turned counter-clockwise almost as far as it can go).
I started thinking that maybe there was something wrong with the device so I opened it up. What I noticed was a lot (95 in total) of small capacity electrolytic capacitors. There are 9 different capacitor types on the board:
1. NIC NSRA .. 50v ... 10uf .... x 45
2. Lelon REA .. 50v ... 2.2uf ... x 13
3. TREC LL ..... 50v ... 1uf ...... x 8
4. TREC LL ..... 50v ... .22uf ... x 1
5. Lelon REA .. 25v ... 100uf .. x 2
6. Lelon REA .. 25v ... 470uf .. x 3
7. TREC SR ..... 25v ... 220uf .. x 4
8. Lelon REA .. 50v ... 47uf .... x 3
9. YAGEO SK. 50v ... 22uf .... x 16
Two of the brands, Lelon and Trec, have a negative reputation on BadCaps.net. YAGEO seems to have an iffy reputation and NIC seems decent. All of the capacitors are 85 degrees because this device does not generate a lot of heat.
None of the capacitors actually show signs of leaking or bloating but it is said that small capacitors usually don't show signs of failure. Is it possible that some of them have lost capacity and\or have increased ESR which is causing them to not perform their proper duty?
I have attached two images that show the unlabeled PCB, and positioning of each capacitor. I would appreciate any recommendations on what capacitors, if any, I should replace.
